A long film résumé is not a requirement to play the part of Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey," but a scruffy blond beard might be. The Irish-born actor Jamie Dornan, like departed star Charlie Hunnam the owner of that aforementioned hirsute flourish, has been cast as the male lead in the adaptation of E.L. James' bestseller. Variety first reported the news Wednesday evening. Dornan, 31, has some screen credits to his name, most notably as Sheriff Graham Humbert in the prime-time ABC fairy-tale series "Once Upon a Time.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” became a phenomenon thanks in large part to its titillating content -- but at CinemaCon on Tuesday, Universal Studios was more focused on romance than raunch. Before introducing never-before-seen footage from the movie, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan, studio Chairman Donna Langley promised the crowd the pair “have the kind of chemistry that could turn this into the next iconic romance.” The event highlighted the difficult line Universal must walk between the material's more earnest romantic aspects and its more explicit hardcore scenes.

If you were one of the "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans left scratching your head after Charlie Hunnam was first cast as Christian Grey, you were probably even more perplexed when it was announced Jamie Dornan would take over the role. On Wednesday evening, Variety reported that Dornan, 31, would fill in for Hunnam, who abruptly dropped off the highly anticipated project Oct. 12. "Fifty Shades of ... Ana!" Actress Dakota Johnson assumed the character of B&D plaything Anastasia Steele for Elle magazine's March issue. The "50 Shades of Grey" star poses for the cover and inside spread wearing all the trappings of a boudoir babe: thigh-high stockings, sexy heels and that smoldering come-hither stare. Johnson poses on the cover bedside -- on her knees -- in a demure John Galliano frock juxtaposed with the headline: "Meet Dakota Johnson, the star of '50 Shades of Grey.'" PHOTOS: Meet the '50 Shades of Grey' cast & crew The shoot, it turns out, is several shades tamer than what the starlet is willing to do for the highly anticipated film based on E.L. James' erotica trilogy.

Everybody's favorite lovingly sadistic billionaire heartthrob has been cast: Jamie Dornan will play Christian Grey in the film adaptation of E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey," according to the Hollywood Reporter . Dornan, as fans of the book know, isn't the first Christian Grey. The casting of Charlie Hunnam, best known for his role in "Sons of Anarchy," was announced in early September. Hunnam withdrew from the part less than two weeks ago, either due to scheduling conflicts or because he was spooked by the deluge of attention coming his way. That left filmmakers little time to secure a new Christian Grey -- the movie is scheduled to begin shooting in November.
