Jamie Lynn Spears is engaged, and big sis Britney Spears is thrilled. "So excited and happy for my sister, congrats @jamielynnspears - love you," Britney tweeted out Monday morning. Her tweet was in reaction to a couple of Instagram posts from the younger Spears on Sunday, when she shared the fact that boyfriend Jamie Watson had popped the question. "Guesssss what??????" Jamie Lynn wrote to caption an all-smiles shot of herself flaunting a new ring on that finger, with 30-year-old Watson at her side.  Posting a brilliantly clear picture of a brilliant and big rock, the 21-year-old wrote on the second shot, "#hedidgood.

Jamie Lynn Spears gave birth to a baby girl Thursday morning at a south Mississippi hospital, according to a person close to the Spears family. The 17-year-old was the star of Nickelodeon's "Zoey 101" and is the younger sister of pop star Britney Spears. The baby's father is Casey Aldridge, a pipe-layer from Liberty, Miss. The couple is not married but announced an engagement several months ago. The younger Spears lives near Liberty with Aldridge, 19, and has been seen around the small south Mississippi town often as her pregnancy became more apparent.

Jamie Lynn Spears' popular TV character is back at her fictional California boarding school, although the pregnant 16-year-old star of the popular children's show "Zoey 101" is continuing to stay out of the limelight herself. With no fanfare, Nickelodeon launched the fourth season Sunday night. Filming had been completed on it last summer. "Zoey 101" concluded its third season last month, shortly before Spears, younger sister of Britney Spears, announced she was pregnant with her teenage boyfriend's child.

SHAME on the Los Angeles Times for the photo caption accompanying a shot of Jamie Lynn Spears at the "Charlotte's Web" premiere [The Party Page, Dec. 17]. Speculation surrounding a 15-year-old girl's undergarments is something that we might expect from a sleazy tabloid, but was highly inappropriate and questionable for a reputable newspaper such as The Times. Not only was your caption creepy in its comment on a minor, but also unfair to Ms. Spears, who has never publicly conducted herself in any way that would invite disrespect.

AS Robert Lloyd says ["Spears, Pregnant at 16, and '101,' " Dec. 31], Jamie Lynn Spears is hardly the first teen to become pregnant. I have watched this story develop with fascination because I too was a teen mom as a senior in high school in 1983. Things were very different then in terms of the social environment. After I, an honors student, decided to keep my child, my favorite teacher sadly told me I "could have been someone." My friends stopped returning my calls. Strangers looked at me with pity and disdain.

I didn't have to figure out how to break the news of Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancy to my kids. Disconcertingly attuned to all celebrity news at ages 10 and 12, the girls broke it to me at the dinner table -- along with an explanation of who, exactly, Jamie Lynn Spears is. It turns out, in case you are a fellow inhabitant of Planet Clueless, that: (1) this is a different person from Jamie Lee Curtis; (2) Britney Spears has a younger sister; (3) she is the "good one."

Our teen sensations are getting too grown up. Britney Spears is pregnant with her second baby. Mischa Barton got killed off "The O.C." and is now a fixture on the fashion-show circuit. Haley Joel Osment was just charged with misdemeanor drunk driving, and Lindsay Lohan is bringing cupcakes to her film set apparently to atone for production delays that one of her bosses attributed to partying too hard. Who is left for our kid siblings to idolize?

In the Britney Spears melodrama, Osama "Sam" Lutfi has long been cast as the villain. The 34-year-old Los Angeles native met Spears in a nightclub and was soon her constant companion, living in her mansion, riding in her cars and being introduced as her manager.
