Janex International Inc., a Woodland Hills toy maker formerly named With Design In Mind International Inc., continued to recover from past troubles with a $1.06-million third-quarter profit on net sales of $6.46 million. In the quarter that ended Sept. 30 a year earlier, Janex lost $752,135 on $200,572 in net sales. In the latest nine-month period, Janex earned $1.08 million, in contrast to a loss of $1.74 million a year before. Its net sales grew to $11.6 million from $474,315.

The Woodland Hills manufacturer of children's products reported sales of $1.7 million for the quarter that ended March 31, up 94% from $894,306 last year. In the latest quarter, Janex's interest expense also jumped more than eightfold to $125,729, compared to $14,795 a year earlier.

Janex International Inc., a Woodland Hills toy company, posted a loss in its fourth quarter and for all of 1995 primarily because of the declining sales of Mighty Morphin Power Ranger toys. In the fourth quarter, Janex posted a $847,226 loss, compared to a $103,198 profit a year earlier, while sales rose 14% to $1.76 million, compared to sales of $1.54 million in the same period a year earlier. For all of 1995, Janex posted a $1.11-million loss, compared to a $1.19-million profit in 1994.

The loss contrasts to a profit of $239,149 in the same quarter last year. Sales were $2.98 million for the quarter, down 34% from $4.5 million. The loss for the nine months that ended Sept. 30 widened to $896,065, from $290,596 last year. Sales in the nine months were $6.32 million, down 17% from $7.59 million the prior year.

The $1-million line of credit is secured by a $500,000 certificate of deposit, effectively providing the company with $500,000 in available borrowings. Lots of companies have their low points, but it would be hard to beat the one toy maker Janex International Inc. hit a couple years ago, when its top two executives were targeted in an embezzlement scandal. Now, though, it's the company's comeback that is hard to beat. The Woodland Hills concern, formerly known as With Design In Mind, has adopted a new name, new management and a new business. And for the first nine months of 1994, earnings were $1.08 million on sales of $11.6 million.

The company agreed to pay $75,000, including $15,000 in cash and the remainder in a combination of cash and stock.
