Joint Venture OKd to Produce Isuzu-Brand Vans: The Taiwan government's Investment Commission has approved a plan from Isuzu Motors Ltd. of Japan to create a joint venture to produce the vans in Taiwan, officials said. Isuzu will own a 51% stake in the venture, named Taiwan Isuzu Motors Co., and Itochu Corp., a Japanese trading company, will hold a 19% share. Taiwan's Sanfu Motors Industrial Co. has the remaining 30% stake.

An old territorial dispute over a tiny cluster of uninhabited islands was reignited last month, threatening to upset Japan's delicate balance of friendship with neighbors Taiwan and China--and revealing how raw Asian sensitivities still are over the legacy of Japanese militarism. THE ISSUE--In dispute is a group of five islets and three coral reefs in the East China Sea about 130 miles northeast of Taiwan and 100 miles north-northwest of Ishigaki Island in Japan's Okinawa prefecture.
