Reporting from New Orleans -- Louisiana State has overcome a series of off-field obstacles to reach the Bowl Championship Series title game, including a midseason switch at quarterback. Jarrett Lee started the season after Jordan Jefferson was suspended for his role in a bar fight. Lee started the first nine games before Jefferson earned back his starting spot. "Both quarterbacks have been tremendous contributors," LSU Coach Les Miles said. "Both quarterbacks are great teammates… I think both players interact extremely well.

Perched first and 10 at midfield in the last Bowl Championship Series title game, Louisiana State quarterback Jordan Jefferson darted 18 yards to the Alabama 32. It was then, midway through the fourth quarter, that LSU crossed midfield for the first time. Please, though, hold your applause. From there, a three-yard loss preceded a five-yard penalty, two incomplete passes and a fumble that gave Alabama possession at LSU's 40. These are the seared images of LSU's 21-0 whitewash defeat at the Superdome.

Isn't Alabama playing Oklahoma State this Monday for the BCS championship? Sorry, just wishful thinking. Marc Popkin Los Angeles :: LSU was a much better football team than anyone ever realized. It is an incredible feat to be No. 1 in the country virtually all year with one of the worst starting quarterbacks in America. Tom Lallas Los Angeles :: Those two Alabama-LSU games did more to get rid of the BCS system than anything I could have dreamed up. Ralph S. Brax Lancaster :: For a national championship game, it was truly offensive.

The "game of the century" might not have been the best game Saturday night. Louisiana State and Alabama lived up to the billing to the extent the volume was high and the scoring was low. It was a brutally battled contest pulled out by LSU, 9-6, on Drew Alleman's 25-yard field goal in overtime. The sold-out crowd of 101,821 at Bryant-Denny Stadium, stunned in the end, could not have been more vocally prepared. "I don't think anybody could watch that game and say Alabama doesn't have a really good team," Crimson Tide Coach Nick Saban said.

Reporting from New Orleans -- Alabama did something Monday night even the best NFL teams don't do much anymore. The Crimson Tide played defense -- what a boring, antiquated, yesteryear concept. No. 2 Alabama pitched the first shutout in Bowl Championship Series title-game history with a 21-0 win over No. 1 Louisiana State at the Superdome. It also was the first shutout in the 14-year history of BCS bowl games. It was the second BCS title for Alabama, which won in 2009, and its 14th national title overall.

Reporting from New Orleans -- They say you can't win championships without an elite quarterback, but they've actually been doing it for years in the Southeastern Conference. The SEC is guaranteed an eighth Bowl Championship Series title Monday night when No. 1 Louisiana State and No. 2 Alabama meet at the Superdome. Yet, you might not know the quarterbacks if you met them on the street. Alabama starter AJ McCarron and LSU's two quarterbacks, Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson, have combined to throw 36 touchdowns this season.
