The Rev. Robert A. (Tony) Taylor, a Baptist minister known for his work with troubled youth in Oxnard, has died of cancer. He was 40. Taylor was the pastor of Pacificside Community Church in Oxnard and a longtime member of St. Paul's Baptist Church, where he had organized counseling, music and sports programs for teen-agers. "He felt that most minorities, in particular, had no male adult supervision," said his brother-in-law, Gary Windom.

As Tom Brady prepared to take a snap, he shouted and pointed across the line, anticipating a blitz from Miami end Jason Taylor, who was lined up at middle linebacker. Maybe Brady's teammates didn't hear him. They failed to block Taylor, who swooped up the middle untouched to force a harried, errant pass. It was that kind of day for Brady and the Patriots, who lost to the Dolphins, 21-0, Sunday. "We just couldn't do anything right," Brady said.

Orange Lutheran's 56-26 Olympic League victory over Brethren Christian was overshadowed by the news that Lancer quarterback Casey Whieldon might be sidelined for the season. Whieldon was hurt with 1:25 remaining in the first half. He was helped off the field and at halftime was taken to a local hospital for X-rays. He is expected to be out four to six weeks with a broken collarbone, according to his mother, Cathy Whieldon.

Karl Dorrell, fired as UCLA's coach in December, has been hired by the Miami Dolphins as the team's wide receivers coach. It's a return to the NFL for Dorrell, who was wide receivers coach for the Denver Broncos from 2000 to '02. In Miami, he'll work under new Coach Tony Sparano, hired last week after the Dolphins endured a 1-15 season. Dorrell is to be paid a little more than $2 million over the next two years, though his salary from the Dolphins will be deducted from his UCLA buyout.

One of the most exciting games in Miami Dolphin history was not seen by the people who would have enjoyed it most: ticketless Dolphin fans in Miami. Saturday's NFL wild-card playoff game at Pro Player Stadium was blacked out locally because it did not sell out before Friday's NFL-mandated deadline. "That's disappointing," Miami Coach Dave Wannstedt said. "You want the whole community to be involved in a great day like this."
