If you were Jay Cutler, where would you go to hibernate this winter? The Bears quarterback has taken a beating from commentators and fans after leaving  the team’s NFC championship game last weekend with an injury. It didn’t help that the Chicago team's opponent was its longtime nemesis, the Green Bay Packers. It also didn't help that Cutler has the body language of a sulky teen-ager. Fans not only questioned the extent of his injury but his toughness. Ouch.

The Chicago Bears didn't wait long to answer one of the biggest questions of the NFL off-season. The Bears announced Thursday they had signed Jay Cutler to a seven-year contract extension, ending the speculation they might allow the strong-armed quarterback to become a free agent. Although Cutler played well under first-year Coach Marc Trestman, he missed six games because of injury. That opened the door for backup Josh McCown, who completed 66.5% of his passes with 13 touchdowns and one interception, leading to speculation the Bears might cut loose the expensive Cutler and use McCown as a bridge until they found a new, young quarterback to develop.

Kristin Cavallari and fiancé Jay Cutler are now the proud parents of a healthy baby boy. We foresee footballs, palm trees and MTV logos as room decor. “We are thrilled to welcome Camden Jack Cutler into the world,” the 25-year-old television personality best known for “The Hills” and “Laguna Beach” tweeted Wednesday. “He was born this morning weighing 7lbs 9oz. Everyone is doing great!” Cavallari, who got re-engaged to the Chicago Bears quarterback after a brief break-up last year, confirmed to People she was pregnant with the couple's first child in January.

The most valuable players obviously stand out each season, and so do the All-Stars and those with maximum contracts and seven-figure sneaker deals. While some of their teammates, those who never get off the bench, or play only on the third line or on return teams, or those who are the players-to-be-named later in deals, hardly matter. And, yes, there are the one-night "stars," who make the late-night video highlights, or whose brief exploits go viral on YouTube. But the real heavy lifting, game in and game out, in professional sports is done by the more unheralded athletes in the lineup almost every day. Those who help push the runs across, or make a key play that doesn't turn up on the stat sheets, help pick up the slack when a superstar is having an off night - they are the glue that helps hold teams together.

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is under attack from a former teammate and co-captain, Adewale Ogunleye, for his shoving of offensive tackle J'Marcus Webb during a 23-10 loss to the Packers on Thursday night in Green Bay. Cutler, who was sacked seven times and had four passes intercepted while he completed only 11 of 27 passes for 126 yards, yelled on a couple of occasions at his linemen as the offense headed toward the sideline. On one occasion, he followed Webb, the left tackle, to the sideline while yelling and gave him a stiff shoulder to the back as he passed him. "If you are not doing your job, yeah, someone should be allowed to get in your face,” Ogunleye said during a radio interview Friday morning on WSCR.

Everyone is blaming Jay Cutler for the Chicago Bears' loss. The real fault goes to George Halas for signing Sid Luckman, who in the seven years between 1940-46 won four NFL titles. What Mr. Luckman did was to forever spoil Chicago fans. There has never been another Luckman in Chicago and most likely never will be. Grow up, Chicago. Not only is Luckman gone, but so is Michael Jordan. Robert Silvers Beverly Hills :: So I see a bunch of reporters and girly men excoriating Cutler for what they deem is a "boo-boo.

Bears quarterback Jay Cutler defended his actions, which included berating his offensive linemen, after the Green Bay Packers dismantled Chicago, 23-10, with a blitzing defense that finished with seven sacks and four interceptions. Cutler, who completed only 11 of 27 passes for 126 yards and one touchdown, was seen coming off the field yelling at his offensive line. On at least one occasion, his stern words continued on the sideline. "I'm not going to just walk to the sideline and act like everything's OK,” Cutler said after the game Thursday night in Green Bay. "It's just not going to happen.

It's a strange week when Washington Coach Mike Shanahan is rolling the dice by taking out the healthy-enough Robert Griffin III, and Chicago Coach Marc Trestman is rolling the dice by putting in the healthy-enough Jay Cutler. If Cutler doesn't match or exceed what hot-handed successor Josh McCown has done, it looks like the end of the road for him in Chicago. As for Shanahan, who has shut down Griffin for the final three games of the season - citing all the punishing hits the quarterback has endured - the paved road in Washington ended some ways back.

Buffalo quarterback EJ Manuel could be coming back. Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles should be coming back. Manuel, who has sat out a month with a sprained knee ligament, might be ready to return for the Bills' game Sunday at Pittsburgh. By all rights, Foles should be starting for the Eagles, considering he tied an NFL record Sunday with seven touchdown passes in a victory over Oakland. But Philadelphia Coach Chip Kelly declined to name a starter Monday for the upcoming game at Green Bay. "It's going to be based on health," Kelly said.

Sunday night was about celebrating a quarterback, but Sunday afternoon was about celebrating over a quarterback. That's what Carolina safety Mike Mitchell did at least, after dragging down Sam Bradford from behind as the St. Louis quarterback ran out of bounds. As Bradford lay in a crumpled heap, rolling back and forth with a knee injury, a seemingly oblivious Mitchell threw his head back and arms out and yelled in celebration. The Bradford injury was an ugly scene on an ugly day for quarterbacks.

The NFL hasn't lost a star or two, it has lost a constellation. A slew of injuries Sunday either ended the seasons or severely hampered a host of prominent players, among them St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford, Houston linebacker Brian Cushing and Indianapolis receiver Reggie Wayne, all of whom will sit out the rest of the season because of knee injuries. Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler is out at least a month because of a torn groin muscle. Green Bay tight end Jermichael Finley remained in the hospital Monday because of a neck injury, and his football future is uncertain.

Times NFL writer Sam Farmer poses the big questions as each team readies for training camp: NFC NORTH A year has passed, but when it comes to the quarterbacks in the NFC North, this feels a lot like 2009. In Minnesota, everyone's still waiting on the decision of Brett Favre . In Chicago, fans are still excited about the potential of Jay Cutler — muted excitement after his 26 interceptions last season — and how he'll mesh with new offensive coordinator Mike Martz . Was it Cutler who made most of the mistakes last fall, or should his supporting cast and former coordinator Ron Turner shoulder more of the blame?

Kristin Cavallari was pulled over by police in Illinois on suspicion of speeding and was cited for driving without the state's driver's license. Perhaps she's taken a page from the DMX driving school ? The "Laguna Hills"/"The Hills" alum was initially stopped Friday by Evanston police officers for allegedly going above the speed limit. When cops realized she didn't have a valid Illinois license, they cited her and escorted her to a nearby police station in her own car so she could pay the $120 fine that the violation requires, police told TMZ. PHOTOS: Celebrity mug shots Apparently the 26-year-old was driving with a California license and never bothered to get one in the Prairie State because she splits her time between Los Angeles and Chicago.
