J.C. Penney's turmoil at the top continued Tuesday as activist investor Bill Ackman stepped down from the board following a public disagreement over the struggling retailer's choice of chief executive and chairman. Ackman, whose Pershing Square Capital Management hedge fund is J.C. Penney's largest shareholder, was replaced Monday by retail veteran Ronald W. Tysoe, the department store chain said Tuesday. Tysoe spent nearly two decades between 1988 and 2006 in high-level positions at Macy's Inc. back when it was Federated Department Stores Inc. J.C. Penney Chairman Thomas Engibous, in a statement, touted Tysoe's “deep knowledge of the retail industry and financial expertise” as a key tool in the embattled company's turnaround efforts.

The puzzled doctor began jotting down notes. Baley had undergone hundreds of tests, but medical minds were still having a hard time coming up with a diagnosis for the boy's developmental problems and poor health. On Friday morning, some very happy snow globe fans will return to J.C. Penney stores for a Black Friday tradition that was briefly wiped out last year. General Electric Co is recalling about 244,000 wall ovens under the GE, GE Profile, Monogram and Kenmore brands because of a fire and burn hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. Some of the ovens may have their door attached incorrectly, allowing enough heat to escape during the self-cleaning cycle to pose a danger, the CPSC said. The ovens were sold at home building and appliance stores between October 2002 and December 2004. Information: (888) 569-1588, www.geappliances.
