Jean Paul Gaultier took inspiration from India for his spring-summer 2013 haute couture collection, shown Wednesday at his Paris atelier. Indian music accompanied his colorful gowns. For an extra touch of glamour, scarves floated behind a few models. Other styles bore Gaultier's signature cone bras and corsets. In the end, a lavishly embellished bride entered to the tune of the French classic, “La Vie En Rose,” only this time sung in Hindi. She paused awhile, then lifted her skirt to reveal four brightly clad children, who raced off down the runway.

PARIS -- In his fall collection shown at Paris Fashion Week on Sunday, Riccardo Tisci, the man who turned Bambi print sweatshirts and fierce magnetic tusk earrings into trends, turned his attention away from the street and toward a new sophistication. Where his last few runway shows were full-on entertainment extravaganzas with live musical guests and model choreography, this one was more intimate. The straightforward runway presentation put the spotlight on the clothes, or more specifically, the fine details.

Talking mannequins with video-animated faces, men in skirts, sweat-stained corsets worn by Madonna and a child's teddy bear that started it all. Get ready for another museum fashion blockbuster. "The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk" opened Saturday at the De Young Museum in San Francisco. The exhibition, which runs through Aug. 19, spotlights almost four decades of the French designer's collections that pushed the boundaries of gender, sexuality, multiculturalism and good taste - all in the name of promoting diversity - and inspired a generation of enfants terribles (Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Martin Margiela)

PARIS --  Jean Paul Gaultier likes himself a Hollywood-worthy production all right. And that's exactly what he gave guests at his fall 2014 fashion show on Saturday night. The venue was the sleek-and-modern 1972 Oscar Niemeyer-designed French Communist Party Headquarters. The glowing green dome in front beckoned us inside to board Gaultier's latest wild ride, a cosmic tour of...Johnny Rotten's London? If the two themes seem like they are out of orbit, it's because they were.

PARIS -- With a new show venue (a theater instead of his headquarters) and a new investor (Puig), French fashion's 60-year-old enfant terrible Jean Paul Gaultier was hoping for a reboot when he showed his fall 2013 collection Saturday night at Paris Fashion Week. The scene: Dispensing with the campy themes we've come to expect from his recent runway extravaganzas (last season's ode to 1980s pop stars, for example), Gaultier seemed to be trying to put the focus back on the clothes.

Clearly the French are no more immune to the allure of reality stars than the folks in the USA, as evidenced by the commotion caused by model/actress Nabilla Benattia at the Jean Paul Gaultier fall/winter 2013-2014 haute couture show Wednesday.  A star of “The Angels of Reality TV,” Nabilla (think Europe's answer to Kim Kardashian) appeared just before the finale. Striking feline poses, she strode down the runway in a black velvet bustier dress, aptly named “Black Panther,” past Catherine Deneuve, photographer Ellen Von Unwerth and others at the Gaultier atelier in Paris.

What is that man doing on that sawhorse, riding backward in the saddle with the reins between his teeth? Who are those flamethrowers on stilts and those jugglers spitting Ping-Pong balls? And why is that middle-aged woman--dressed in nothing but a strapless leotard and fishnet hose--here for a job interview? At this grungy Hollywood sound stage, things are exactly what they appear to be. This is a temporary job placement office.

A Vogueish Corset: The gold corset that Madonna wore during her last tour will be sold at a British auction to help the homeless. The corset with cone-shaped breast shields, by French designer Jean Paul Gaultier, will be up for bid at a sale of pop memorabilia in Manchester, England, on Nov. 17.

Hermes, the 165-year-old French luxury goods company known for demure silk scarves and classic handbags, has hired bad-boy designer Jean-Paul Gaultier to revamp its ready-to-wear clothing line. Gaultier will replace minimalist Belgian designer Martin Margiela, who has been at the helm for six years.

Jean PAUL GAULTIER may be an aging enfant terrible of the Parisian fashion world, but he hasn't lost his touch. When invited to stage a retrospective of his work at the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art in Paris, he declared that displaying clothes in museums is boring and proposed creating a bakery instead.

PARIS -- When it comes to the world of luxury fashion, Chanel is the universal language. That was the message at the Chanel fall 2013  show held Tuesday morning at Paris Fashion Week, where Karl Lagerfeld's latest, greatest piece of runway scenery under the ornate glass ceiling of the Grand Palais was a gigantic, rotating globe with tiny Chanel flags planted wherever the brand is sold, which is pretty much everywhere judging from the map, except for...

PARIS -- On Aura Tout Vu, which roughly translates as “Now You've Seen Everything,” may be the quirkiest design house on the official Paris haute couture calendar. So it's not surprising that Lady Gaga numbers among its customers. Label designers Livia Stoianova and Yassen Samouilov showed their spring-summer collection, themed “Cosmic Beetle,” this week, and it was easy to imagine Lady Gaga wearing some of the clothes onstage.  In keeping with the concept, real beetle wings substituted for sequins, lighting up necklines, shoulders and transparent sleeves or giving an entire dress a surreal-seeming iridescence.
