It's time for America's favorite pro football game show "Armchair Defensive Coordinator," where we test your knowledge of your favorite NFL team. The first question is for you Ram fans out there. OK, it's third and long and Jim Everett's dropping back to pass. He's most likely going to throw the ball to . . . Henry Ellard? Bzzzzzzzzzz. Not anymore. Ellard, the most prolific receiver in Ram history and the quintessential possession receiver, has seven catches in the last four games.

On the final day of the Plan B signing period, the Rams added their fourth and probably final free agent Wednesday, signing Seattle reserve defensive lineman Jim Skow. The period ended at midnight Wednesday and the Rams were not expected to close any 11th-hour deals. Skow joins receiver Jeff Chadwick, running back Derek Loville and center Blair Bush on the Rams' Plan B list. All four played for Knox in Seattle at some point in their careers.

Quarterback Jim Everett has at least one solution to the Rams' first-quarter blues: win the coin toss. In each of their six games this season, the Rams have lost the toss. In half of their games, they have surrendered points before their offense has had a chance to put on their helmets. The Rams have been outscored, 48-0, in the first quarter this season. "Jackie Slater's calling it," Everett said with a smile. "Trust me, he has no business going to Las Vegas."

After the Rams' two scrimmages with San Diego, rookie Todd Kinchen has emerged as a big-play maker at wide receiver, one of the most hotly contested positions in training camp. Kinchen caught two passes for 38 yards against the Chargers at UC Irvine last month, then caught three passes for 62 yards, including a 26-yard scoring play from T.J. Rubley, in the 14-14 scrimmage Saturday at UC San Diego.

It was the same old story for the Rams Sunday night against New Orleans: Spend most of the game trying to get out from under a first-quarter deficit. On the first possession of the game, the Saints went down the field, 12 plays, 84 yards, for a quick touchdown and a 7-0 lead. The Rams have been outscored, 48-0, in first quarters. Over the final three, they are outscoring their opponents, 83-68.
