First he has some unfinished business. With everything else he's got going--or on hold--Strang is a member of the Saddleback College men's golf team, which is among the favorites today in the community college state championships at the Glendora Country Club.

Saddleback finished tied for third at the Southern California golf championship Monday at Bakersfield Country Club and earned a berth in the state tournament. Saddleback's lowest score was turned in by Jeff Strang, who had rounds of 69 and 77 to finish at two-over 146. Long Beach won at 749 and Canyons (755) was second. Saddleback and Desert tied at 757.

Lonnie Charleson shot par 72 and Brian Miller and Scott Henderson each had 73 as Saddleback shot 369 to win an Orange Empire Conference men's golf match at El Prado in Chino. Jeff Strang added a 75 and Damien Paterson shot 76 for Saddleback (11-0). Santa Ana shot 376, Orange Coast was at 381 and Santiago Canyon finished with 412. Brian Winston and Kyle Wicks each shot 72 for Orange Coast.

Jeff Greenfield said it was the perfect way to end the golf season. But the way he played this year, a community college individual state title was the only suitable ending. Greenfield, a freshman at Golden West, punctuated his record-setting season by shooting 76-68--144 to win that title Monday at Glendora Country Club.

John Miller owns a small business in the city of Orange and has had experience with workers who make mistakes. Sometimes they are big ones. So when the subject comes up about Todd Bertuzzi, signed by the Ducks on Monday, Miller's reaction is tempered by that experience. "Everybody deserves a second chance," he said. Miller is not alone.
