Jeffrey Wayne Minor, the Irvine man accused of assaulting a Newport Beach police officer, failed to appear Thursday at a court hearing, authorities said. Minor, 30, also missed a court hearing in Riverside County last week in connection with a 1993 vehicular manslaughter conviction. Authorities believe he may be hiding in Riverside County, where family and friends live, or may try to leave the country.

An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for a driver who failed to show up in court on charges that he dragged a police officer with his Porsche after a Dec. 20 traffic stop. Officials said Jeffrey Wayne Minor, 30, who has a long history of drunk driving, was due in Harbor Court in Newport Beach for a pretrial hearing on charges of felony assault and hit-and-run. Newport Beach police said Jeffrey Wayne Minor, 30, of Irvine, may be in hiding. Minor is scheduled to appear at Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach on Thursday on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on a Newport Beach police officer. An Irvine man serving prison time for dragging a Newport Beach police officer with his Porsche in 1998 died after being transported from prison to a hospital, officials said. Jeffrey Wayne Minor, 36, was having difficulty breathing April 9, said Terry Thornton, spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections.
