A former prison nurse opened fire on guards escorting her shackled husband from a Tennessee courthouse Tuesday, killing one guard and escaping with her husband in a sport utility vehicle, authorities said. Convict George Hyatte, 34, shouted "shoot 'em" to wife Jennifer Hyatte, 31, and she opened fire with at least six shots from a handgun, scattering dozens of witnesses outside the Roane County courthouse in Kingston, Police Chief Jim Washam said.

A fugitive inmate and his wife wanted in a courthouse escape and shooting in Tennessee were captured Wednesday night at an Ohio motel after a tip from a cabdriver who had dropped them off, authorities said. George Hyatte and Jennifer Forsyth Hyatte were in a room at an America's Best Value Inn in Columbus and were arrested without a struggle, said Mark Gwyn, director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. "We have found weapons," he said.

Almost two years after a judge, a court reporter and a sheriff's deputy were shot to death at the Fulton County Courthouse, Brian Gene Nichols will stand trial in that courthouse for those crimes. As TV cameras roll, the justice system will be on trial too.
