A former Huntington Beach Boy Scout leader and a Santa Ana man face trial on felony charges of conspiring to produce and distribute child pornography, and an ex-priest is believed to have fled to escape prosecution in the case. David Negrette, 26, now of Westminster, and Jerry Houchens, 49, of Santa Ana, were ordered to stand trial after a preliminary hearing Monday before Municipal Judge Karl Jaeger. A Baja California man testified at the hearing that Houchens in July, 1987, rented an apartment in Ensenada, Mexico, where child pornography allegedly was produced.

A former assistant Boy Scout master and a Santa Ana man have been ordered to stand trial on felony charges of conspiracy to produce and distribute child pornography as part of a ring allegedly headed by a former Roman Catholic priest. David Negrette, 26, of Westminster, who was with a Huntington Beach Scout troop until about a year ago, and Jerry Houchens, 49, will be arraigned today in Los Angeles Superior Court. Police say the ring sexually molested boys in Ensenada and videotaped the acts for distribution to others.

An Orange County man who Los Angeles authorities allege was involved in a child pornography ring is now being investigated by Huntington Beach police because he served as an assistant scoutmaster for a Boy Scout troop in that city. David Negrette, 26, of Westminster was dismissed from the Scouts in 1988 for not meeting the "leadership standards" of the youth group, according to Devon Dougherty, a spokesman for the Orange County Council for the Boy Scouts of America. Dougherty refused to elaborate on why Negrette was dismissed, but he did say that there was "no relation" between the dismissal and the child pornography charge that Negrette now faces.

A former Roman Catholic priest described by neighbors as a "perfect gentleman" is one of two men being sought in connection with a ring that allegedly made pornographic videotapes of young boys in Mexico and Southern California and distributed them worldwide, Los Angeles police said Tuesday. John Bauer, 52, was said by officers to have preyed on juveniles in Hollywood in recent years and to have owned porn shops in the Pacific Northwest. Bauer, the alleged ringleader, is believed to have fled the country after slipping through police hands several months ago. Also being sought--and also thought to have fled the country--is Victor Feliciano, 29, a Rosemead handyman.
