A business associate of ZZZZ Best founder Barry Minkow pleaded guilty Wednesday to stock fraud and admitted helping the whiz kid entrepreneur launder funds stolen from the Reseda carpet-cleaning company. Jerry Polevoi, 41, of Woodland Hills, was the eighth man to plead guilty in a securities fraud case stemming from the July, 1987, collapse of ZZZZ Best. Two days before he resigned as chief executive of the scandal-ridden ZZZZ Best carpet cleaning company, Barry Minkow sent two aides to Las Vegas to "launder" more than $700,000 in company funds, according to a police crime report. Minkow later used $110,000 of the laundered money to hire an attorney, the report says.

Novelty Carpet & Upholstery Care was founded July 14 by three former ZZZZ Best executives as a cleaning company for residential and commercial rugs and furniture.

Federal prosecutors Friday unsealed a 54-count racketeering and fraud indictment accusing millionaire whiz kid Barry Minkow of staging an elaborate securities hoax to prop up his carpet-cleaning company while bleeding it nearly dry of money, some of it laundered through Las Vegas casinos.

Two former officers of the ZZZZ Best carpet cleaning company were charged Tuesday by the Securities and Exchange Commission with civil insider trading violations in connection with the sale of stock in the firm. Twin brothers Jack N. Polevoi, 41, of Woodland Hills and Jerry N. Polevoi of Simi Valley, already have pleaded guilty to criminal charges of tax fraud and conspiracy involving the bankrupt Reseda-based firm formed by Barry Minkow, who also was convicted in the case.
