Warner Bros. production executive Polly Cohen has been named president of Warner Independent Pictures, succeeding Mark Gill as head of the Burbank studio's specialty film unit. Cohen's appointment had been expected, with Gill having been forced out of the job last week and given a production deal. Gill had repeatedly clashed with his boss, production President Jeff Robinov, over the unit's direction and other strategic issues.

Hit-hungry ABC is pinning its revival hopes on a pistol-packing, poker-playing, con-dating U.S. marshal who goes about her business in stiletto heels. That would be "Karen Sisco," the character and the title of the highest-profile drama the network is debuting this fall. Giving ABC a new hit is a crucial yet formidable task, but this series brings with it a formidable arsenal.

Milling around a food court in UCLA's Ackerman Union, the five members of the comedy troupe Broken Lizard--Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Eric Stolhanske--could easily be mistaken for graduate students taking a smoothie break. Instead they are waiting for the end of a screening of "Super Troopers," a film they have written, directed and starred in, so they can field questions from the college audience.
