Jesse James had it all. The Hollywood A-list wife. A top-ranked cable-TV show. He'd built his Long Beach shop, West Coast Choppers, into an empire, wrenching custom $80,000-plus motorcycles for a celebrity clientele -- an endeavor he spun off into a mass-market clothing line for Wal-Mart, a glossy gearhead magazine and an eco-friendly burger joint he hoped to franchise. That was early 2010. Two months later, he'd thrown it all away with a string of extramarital affairs that made James a household name for all the wrong reasons.

Kat Von D's wedding plans are sunk - and that's a good thing. The tattoo artist and her electronic-musician fiance, Deadmau5 (real name Joel Zimmerman), are leaving the traditional white wedding far behind and choosing an underwater vibe instead for their nuptials. The couple apparently both love and are drawing inspiration from the 1926 H.P. Lovecraft story "The Call of Cthulhu," Von D told People on Monday (As best we can tell from a very quick read , it's about a powerful ancient creature that is part man, part octopus and part dragon and lurks in an ancient city beneath the sea)

Jesse James has definite ideas about fashion. He knows what he likes, and what he doesn't. The plaid shirt he's wearing buttoned up to the rim of his beefy neck--a shirt from the West Coast Choppers line that you can buy at Wal-Mart for $20--is something he likes. Of course he does: He designed it. He also likes the enzyme-washed, deconstructed T-shirts silk-screened with images of pistols and skulls that are hanging on racks in an office down the hall from his workshop in Long Beach.

Kat Von D's breakup with ex-fiance Jesse James, the former Mr. Sandra Bullock, is playing out in operatic fashion over the airwaves and the Internet. The tattooed "L.A. Ink" star made headlines for checking out of a "Good Day LA" interview Wednesday after her relationship with James was mentioned while she sat backstage, and engaged afterward in a back-and-forth via Twitter with the show's host, Jillian Barberie Reynolds. But -- counterintuitive though it may seem -- when it comes to breakups, women actually fare better than men. A 2010 study published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior found that men suffer emotionally more than women do after a romantic relationship ends.

The remains of a man some believe was Jesse James were exhumed in Granbury, Texas, for genetic testing to settle claims that the infamous outlaw died in Texas 69 years later than history books say. The widely accepted view is that James was shot and killed by Robert Ford, a member of his own gang, on April 3, 1882, in St. Joseph, Mo., his home state. Many people in Granbury believe James faked his death in Missouri and lived in Texas until 1951.

Kat Von D is engaged to Deadmau5, and the two did it the new-fashioned way: on Twitter. "I can't wait for Christmas so.... Katherine Von Drachenberg, will you marry me? @thekatvond" electronic-music producer and DJ Deadmau5 - real name Joel Zimmerman - tweeted on Saturday, including a picture of a ring, seen above.  Apparently the answer was yes, as the 30-year-old tattoo artist and reality TV personality followed up with a multitude of exclamation points, then this: "Mi corazon!

Can't say I didn't give it my best," she said Saturday in the first of a series of tweets on the breakup. "Man, I sure was wrong. But at least he made it a no-brainer to break that off. #lessonlearned. Now, we can get all of the 'I told you so's' outta the way ... And move on. " And for those who had no idea what or whom the 30-year-old was talking about?

But when the subject of forgiving another 19th century outlaw arose in Los Angeles in 1933, the suspect claimed to be present. "I'm the original Jesse James," a white-haired gent confessed to officers at the old Central Police Station. The article "Jesse James Wants to Take You From Dork to Cool in 20 Minutes" (by Elizabeth Khuri, Men's Fashion Issue, April 9) quotes James referring to Von Dutch and other clothing companies: "They're all copying everything right from us and making bank off it. And they don't make motorcycles, they don't build cars, they don't know how to weld and fabricate and have this whole lifestyle and shop." Each of these statements is false. Von Dutch has existed since 1996, and from what I understand, James has only been creating his budget-priced apparel for about three years.

The Mediterranean sits along the sand in Orange County on a corner lot with ocean views.
