I'm lying on the floor of my apartment trying to maneuver into a respectable downward dog, but it's not coming easy. Not because I'm injured or overworked (although I admit I could clock more hours in yoga class), rather it's because I'm strapped into a 40-pound compression suit, trying to see how much harder it makes my workout. Spoiler: It makes it much, much harder. Created by Jim Foster, a former professional athlete, the Gravity Plus Suit consists of a weighted long-sleeved jacket and chaps, which go over workout clothes and Velcro together for added compression.

The Arena Football League will suspend operations in 1989 in an attempt to restructure, officials of the defending league champion Detroit Drive said Monday. The announcement, however, came as a surprise to officials of the league's local franchise, the Los Angeles Cobras. After several months of bitter negotiations between the owners and league founder and commissioner Jim Foster, the parties reached an impasse and decided to disband this year but said they expect to resume play in 1990.

Los Angeles attorney Leonard Gumport will examine whether Foster bought less than a half-acre of county land through an intermediary, former Assemblyman Brett Granlund. Officials are barred from buying county land themselves or through a go-between.

NASCAR President Bill France Jr. was in good condition today after surgery for ankle injuries suffered in a boating accident. France, chairman and chief executive officer of International Speedway Corp., was hurt Wednesday when a 30-foot fishing boat went airborne over a large swell, said company spokesman Jim Foster. France was standing "when it came back down and hit the water. Both ankles took the impact," Foster said.
