The Utah Jazz waived veteran backup point guard Jim Les today and signed free agent Delaney Rudd of Wake Forest to fill out their 12-player roster. The terms of the contract with Rudd, who turns 27 on Wednesday, were not released, said Jazz spokesman Kim Turner. The 6-foot-2 point guard was a third-round draft pick of the Jazz in 1985, the same draft that produced Karl Malone and Carey Scurry. Rudd has played previously in the CBA and the United States Basketball League.

The Clippers, filling the roster spot left vacant by the injury to Gary Grant, signed guard Jim Les to a 10-day contract Tuesday. Les, a 1986 graduate of Bradley, has played in the World Basketball League, the Continental Basketball Assn. and the NBA. He appeared in all 82 games for the Utah Jazz last season and played in the opener this season before being waived. Since then, he toured with the Marathon Oil AAU team before joining the CBA's Santa Barbara Islanders, for whom he averaged 14.

Both coaches agreed that the play that ignited seventh-ranked Louisville to its 82-68 victory over No. 14 Bradley was Milt Wagner's block of a jumper by Jim Les when the score was tied midway through the second half at Ogden, Utah. Louisville Coach Denny Crum, whose Cardinals had just blown a seven-point lead at that point of their NCAA West Regional basketball tournament meeting with Bradley on Saturday, decided to employ a box-and-one defense, putting Wagner on Les.

Guard Steve Harris, a veteran of four NBA seasons with Houston, Golden State and Detroit, signed a 10-day contract with the Los Angeles Clippers today. Harris, 26, was signed from the Columbus Horizon of the Continental Basketball Assn., where he averaged 25.5 points, third-best in the league. Harris replaces Jim Les on the Clippers' roster. Les had been on two 10-day contracts with the team before being released Monday.

Bradley guard Jim Les hit a 30-foot jump shot at the buzzer to rally the West to a 94-92 victory over the East Sunday in the 24th annual NABC All-America college basketball game. Les, who scored 10 points and was a key playmaker for his team, shot his long jumper with one second to go to give the West its seventh consecutive victory in the annual meeting of the college senior all-stars.

The Clippers ended Coach Mike Schuler's first season with a 31-51 record, one victory short of the club record for the franchise in Los Angeles. "It's the time of the year we should be getting prepared for next season," Schuler said. "Next season, we shouldn't be packing our bags.

Sophomore forward Danny Granger had 29 points and 20 rebounds as Bradley rallied from a seven-point deficit in the final three minutes to beat Pepperdine in overtime, 95-81, Friday at Peoria, Ill. Phillip Gilbert had 28 points and 10 rebounds for Bradley, which won its first game with new Coach Jim Les. Sophomore guard Terrance Johnson and senior guard Devin Montgomery each scored 20 points for Pepperdine (0-1).
