Jim Sebreros' feats on the football field are unparalleled in the 69-year history of Garden Grove High School. As a junior last year, he was named the Garden Grove League's most valuable player after leading the Argonauts to a 10-0 record, the best mark in the school's 69-year history. This season, he will establish school records for career rushing and scoring that Fred Miller set in 1966-68.

Jim Sebreros rushed for 176 yards on 16 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead Garden Grove to a 41-9 victory over Savanna before 1,140 fans at Garden Grove High. Running back Gary Hemme scored two touchdowns, and quarterback Brian Schneider scored one and added a two-point conversion. The Garden Grove offensive line powered through the Savanna defense, opening gaping holes for the Argonaut runners.

Thanks to running back Jim Sebreros' four touchdowns and 133 rushing yards and a defensive backfield that caused considerable trouble for Los Amigos quarterback Joey Portillo, Garden Grove remained undefeated with a 34-13 Garden Grove League victory Friday night at Garden Grove High. Sebreros, who has rushed for 528 yards and 10 touchdowns, gave the Argonauts (7-0, 4-0 in league) a 13-0 first-quarter lead on touchdown runs of 34 and seven yards.

Wide receiver Brandon Hoalton caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Simon Fuentes with 50 seconds to play Thursday night to give Garden Grove a 21-14 nonleague victory over Savanna in the season opener for both schools at Glover Stadium. Hoalton, who finished the game with five catches for 130 yards, also caught a 52-yard scoring pass with eight seconds to play in the first half to pull Garden Grove to within 14-7.

Jim Sebreros rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns on runs of 64 and 47 yards to lead Garden Grove to a 20-0 victory over San Luis Obispo. ODDS AND ENDS Tailback Jeff Byrd was not just his team's leading rusher, but was the top passer as well as Rancho Alamitos beat Culver City, 20-6. Byrd rushed for 211 yards in 24 carries. But he was also one of one passing, good for 26 yards off a halfback option. Meanwhile Rancho Alamitos quarterback Marshall Brown completed none of three passes.

The weather dampened Garden Grove High's homecoming Friday night, but the rain and lightning failed to deter Jim Sebreros. Sebreros scored three touchdowns in the first 6 minutes 34 seconds to help the Argonauts defeat Santiago, 28-0, in a Garden Grove League game at Garden Grove High. On the opening kickoff, Sebreros shook off a tackle, found an opening and ran 85 yards to give Garden Grove a 7-0 lead. It was the first time the senior running back has scored on a kickoff return.

Garden Grove High School's 20-0 victory over Kennedy Thursday night put the Argonauts in a position to advance to the Southern Section football playoffs for the first time in five years. Garden Grove (5-5, 4-3 in the Garden Grove League) will tie for third in the league if Rancho Alamitos beats Pacifica tonight. The Argonauts would receive the playoff berth because of a victory over Pacifica. Kennedy finished the season 3-7 and 1-6. Mistakes played a key role in Thursday's victory.

Jim Sebreros set a Garden Grove High School career rushing record and single-season touchdown mark Thursday night while leading the Argonauts to a 31-0 Garden Grove League victory over Bolsa Grande at Bolsa Grande High School. Sebreros scored on touchdown runs of 41 and 32 yards and totaled 147 yards rushing in 13 carries. His 32-yard run gave him a season total of 19, breaking the 1970 mark of 18 set by Willie Gardner.
