One thing Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon have in common - other than being late-night hosts with Ben & Jerry's flavors named after them, that is - is the important role music plays on their respective shows . On “Late Night,” Fallon's joyful classroom-instrument covers are already the stuff of legend , as are his musical mash-ups in the style of classic rockers like Bob Dylan . For his part, Colbert has never been shy...

The Ducks have defined themselves early in the NHL season as a team capable of handling adverse situations, no matter the opponent. Friday night in Detroit, facing a goaltender who's given them fits, in the fifth game of a six-game trip, in a building where they hadn't won in five years, the Ducks fired two early third-period goals past Detroit's Jimmy Howard and beat the Red Wings, 5-2, at Joe Louis Arena. The Ducks are 10-2-1, lead the Pacific Division and are second in the Western Conference with 21 points.

James Franco, star of "Oz the Great and Powerful," arrived at the film's premiere Wednesday in a hot air balloon, but the gimmick didn't stop there. He also took the human-carrying craft to his appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" later that evening, which films next door to the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard where "Oz" premiered. It was his first time in a real hot air balloon, Franco told Kimmel. Watch the stylish arrival above. In the lavish Disney film, Franco plays a younger version of the famed wizard -- the tale starting from his arrival in the magical land.

Aspiring comedians, consider yourselves warned: Make fun of Bruce Jenner at your own peril. As both Jimmy Fallon and Joel McHale have learned the hard way, the Olympic decathlete and Kardashian stepdad doesn't take too kindly to cracks about his frighteningly taut visage. The subject came up Thursday on “Late Night,” when McHale was discussing a run-in with Kris Jenner earlier in the day backstage at “The View.” She scolded him for running in fear from her family, presumably to avoid awkward encounters with the very people he ridicules so often on “The Soup.” But the “Community” star stuck up for himself, claiming that he's “deathly afraid” of Bruce Jenner for a number of reasons.

This post has been updated. See below for details. A month later, Jimmy Kimmel is unpacked in his new time slot digs - and giving his neighbors on the late-night block something to talk about. "Jimmy Kimmel Live's" move to 11:35 p.m. has paid off big for ABC and added bounce to the battle for late night, long a predictable tug-of-war between Jay Leno and David Letterman. In its most recent week (Jan. 28-Feb. 1), the late-night talker was second to "The Tonight Show" in adults 18-49 (1.081 million verses 911,000 for "Kimmel")

"Mr. Orr, this is the White House operator. " As a White House spokesman, I received phone calls like this all the time. But this was the first time the president's secretary had ordered me to report to the Oval Office immediately. Before 7 a.m. on a Saturday. It was December 2003. Iraq was all over the news. We were closing in on the capture of Saddam Hussein. But - and the nation should be thankful - this wasn't my domain. President George W. Bush had another reason for calling for me now. Barney Cam. How it happened Whenever I'm asked to speak about my tenure in the White House, the conversation always shifts to Barney, the Scottish terrier whom the president regarded as the son he never had. After Barney died Friday at age 12, I found myself thinking about how he became an Internet sensation.

MIDLAND CITY, Ala. - Midland City is a place where things have always gone more or less according to plan. There was that time the Beck house burned down, but even then two Bibles and a picture of Christ remained untouched. So the current crisis - a little boy kidnapped and held prisoner underground for days - has left people here struggling to find a purpose behind it. They have found none on their televisions or in local newspapers, because authorities have released little information.
