To understand the impact and influence Tyrone Green had on Joakim Noah, just go back to Noah's 2007 draft night. Wearing seersucker, a bow tie and an exuberant smile, Noah, minutes after he shook then-Commissioner David Stern's hand and walked offstage, ignored a question on live TV to get serious. “I just want to thank Mr. Green, who has been my mentor,” Noah said that night. “I love you to death, Mr. Green.” Green, an influential figure in New York youth basketball for 35 years, died unexpectedly last week at 63. Noah returned to practice Saturday after flying to New York for an excused bereavement leave to spend time with Green's family.

Joakim Noah will join Michael Jordan as the only Chicago Bulls players to win the NBA's defensive player of the year award, the Associated Press reported. The official announcement of the award is expected to come from the Bulls at a 2 p.m. PDT news conference. Jordan won the honor in 1988. The award comes for Noah after a season in which he emerged as an offensive force after primarily being known for his defense and rebounding. However, even as he has become an offensive focal point for the Bulls, Noah remains their defensive anchor, averaging 1.5 blocked shots a game and creating havoc by rotating onto smaller players in pick-and-roll situations.

The Cleveland Cavaliers intend to speak with former Lakers coach Mike Brown as the team begins its search for a candidate to replace fired coach Byron Scott . Brown's return as the Cavaliers coach, once thought too farfetched, is a distinct possibility. "It should be," said James after the Miami Heat practice Friday. James played for Brown when the Cavaliers reached their greatest heights before the coach was fired three years ago. Brown is a close friend of Cavaliers General Manager Chris Grant , who would not answer a direct question about Brown during a news conference to announce Scott's dismissal on Thursday but made it clear the Cavaliers would bring in a coach "who is strong defensively with proven systems.

"In some respects, the confetti is still falling around them," Donovan told reporters, referring to the Gators' consecutive NCAA titles. While the Gators' NCAA tournament winning streak will remain alive at 12 games, settling for an NIT (Not Ideal Tournament)
