Early in the season, the Lakers gave Kobe Bryant a $48.5-million, two-year extension -- a gamble that he'll fully recover from the Achilles' injury that ended his season in April 2013. After six games played, Bryant went down with a knee fracture in a win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Dec. 17.  The Lakers went on to win 27 games, a full 30 behind the Clippers (57-25). Bryant returned to the court Monday, cleared to start training in anticipation of a full return for the 2014-15 season.

This off-season, the Lakers exercised their team option to keep Meeks for another season at $1.55 million. Thanks for all the Bday love!

On Wednesday, the NBA announced Phoenix Suns guard Goran Dragic was selected as the league's most improved player this season. Lakers guard Jodie Meeks was recognized in the voting, albeit with a single second-place vote, tying for 20th place. With Kobe Bryant playing just six games this past season with Achilles' and knee injuries, Meeks made the most of his opportunity to start 77 games for the Lakers. Meeks averaged 15.7 points per game while shooting 46.3% from the field and 40.1% from three-point range.

Reserve shooting guard Jodie Meeks has accepted a two-year deal worth about $3 million to play for the Lakers, The Times has learned. The move hardly warrants the same headlines as the Lakers' other blockbuster offseason moves in acquiring Steve Nash and Dwight Howard, but Meeks' arrival gives the Lakers a solid option in relieving Kobe Bryant's minutes and bolstering the team's outside shooting.  The 6-foot-4 Meeks, who played for the Philadelphia...

The Lakers dropped to 9-11 on Friday, losing in Oklahoma City, 114-108. It was just another loss in a string of losses. The Lakers are just 2-6 on the road, but they played hard Friday and, at times, well against the Thunder.  The Lakers just couldn't overcome the 41 points they gave up in the second quarter. Jodie Meeks, in particular, was a factor. He was the only player on the team with a positive plus/minus, the Lakers outscoring the Thunder by 11 over the 20 minutes Meeks was on the floor.

Coach Mike Brown seems to have his initial rotation set at shooting guard for the Lakers this season. Kobe Bryant, naturally, is the starter. In the opener, Bryant played 35 minutes.  While that will fluctuate, if that's the guide, the Lakers have 13 minutes open for subs. Technically, Bryant can move up to small forward in a smaller lineup, but that's not something Brown has gone to just yet (preseason or post) for any significant time. Jodie Meeks relieved Bryant for exactly 13 minutes in the team's loss to the Dallas Mavericks.  Meeks scored three points on three attempts from behind the arc.  Over the preseason Meeks struggled to hit shots within the paint but was strong from the outside.

Jodie Meeks hit half of his shots against the Philadelphia 76ers, including a highlight reverse dunk, for a total of seven points.  Meeks is a steady part of Coach Mike D'Antoni's rotation which went just eight deep on Tuesday in the Lakers' 103-99 loss to the Sixers. Coach Doug Collins had nothing but positive things to say about Meeks, whom he coached in Philadelphia. "He's one of the best teammates you can ever have," said Collins.  "He never puts himself above the team....

The Lakers signed guard Jodie Meeks this summer with hopes that he'd help stretch the floor with his outside shot. The results have been mixed for Meeks, who averaged 5.9 points a game while shooting only 26.7% from the field.  He also shot a team-high 45.8% from three-point range but inside the arc he converted a dismal one of 21 attempts. "It just takes a little bit of time getting used to the system and my role coming off the bench," said Meeks.  "I'll figure it out. " Coach Mike Brown has alternated between Devin Ebanks and Meeks at shooting guard behind Kobe Bryant.

Jodie Meeks built a solid bond with teammate Dwight Howard during their first season together with the Lakers. Howard will be a free agent this summer.  Does Meeks think Howard will re-sign with the Lakers? "I know he loves this city.  I know he loves the team," Meeks said.  "We got pretty close this year as friends -- from the same hometown [Atlanta]. I can't really say exactly what he's going to do but I know he likes the city. " Regardless of where Howard lands, Meeks expects the center to be a stronger player than he was this past season, when he was coming off April 2012 back surgery.

SAN ANTONIO - Finally. The Lakers crawled past the finish line Wednesday, kissing goodbye to the 2013-14 season (without any further injuries) in a 113-100 victory over the half-interested San Antonio Spurs at AT&T Center. After a series of record-setting lows, the most important date for the Lakers becomes May 20, the night of the NBA draft lottery. They have a 6.3% chance of landing the top overall draft pick after finishing with the NBA's sixth-worst record. While the Lakers (27-55)

SALT LAKE CITY - Poor Lakers. They lose even when they win. They hammered the similarly woeful Utah Jazz on Monday, 119-104, but damaged their lottery percentages for the draft. If the Lakers had lost, Utah would have caught them (and Boston) in the overall standings, forging a three-way tie for the NBA's fourth-worst record. BOX SCORE: Lakers 119, Jazz 104 Now the Lakers (26-55) will probably finish with the sixth-worst record and a 6.3% chance at the No. 1 pick at the May 20 lottery.

Emerging from the rubble of the Lakers' worst season since moving to Los Angeles was the story of someone who shall inherit the earth. Or at least a really nice pay raise. Jodie Meeks has been the Lakers' most consistent player, managing to avoid serious injury and continually putting in an honest night's work during a dreadful season for the franchise. He is averaging a career-best 15.6 points, almost double his output last season, but faces the same off-season question as almost everyone on the roster.

Steve Nash wasn't exactly jumping up and down after moving up third on the NBA's all-time assists list during Tuesday's 145-130 loss to Houston. "It was a relief, to be honest," said Nash, a two-time league MVP. "I kind of just wanted to get it out of the way because I didn't want it hanging over my head or my teammates' heads, so it was nice to get it done. " It happened on a pass to Jodie Meeks for a dunk with 2 minutes 13 seconds left in the first half. Nash entered the game with 10,330 career assists, just four behind Mark Jackson's 10,334.  His pass to Meeks moved Nash to 10,335, now behind only John Stockton's 15,806 and Jason Kidd's 12,091.

While he was enjoying a high school football game in his native Atlanta, Jodie Meeks' cell phone blew up with text messages. The Lakers had just finalized a trade that would bring them Dwight Howard. Immediately, Meeks imagined what it would be like to join a star-studded roster featuring an elite defender (Howard), an elite passer (Steve Nash), an elite scorer (Kobe Bryant) and elite post player (Pau Gasol). The thought of receiving countless open three-pointers because his teammates were double-teamed seemed so tantalizing.

Washington Wizards 117 - Lakers 107 (end of regulation) The Lakers' race to the bottom continued on Friday night, in a 117-107 loss to the Washington Wizards at Staples Center -- but team fought until the end, almost literally. With just over two minutes left in the fourth, Nick Young and Drew Gooden got into a scuffle after battling for a rebound. Gooden was called for a flagrant 2 and ejected. Young was given a technical, after pushing Gooden, in what appeared to be the face.

The Lakers just can't avoid injuries. On Monday, Lakers guard Jordan Farmar suffered a groin injury in practice. Farmar had already missed 30 games with two hamstring injuries. He'll be evaluated on Monday or Tuesday by Dr. Luga Podesta of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic to determine the severity of his strained, right groin. Through 36 appearances, Farmar is averaging 10.4 points and 4.7 assists while shooting 43.0% from the field and 45.7% from three-point range. Kendall Marshall will likely get more playing time should Farmar sit out for an extended period.
