The Detroit Pistons will play the remainder of their games in Detroit's Joe Louis Arena despite Pontiac Silverdome officials outlook that the storm-battered stadium will be back in business by April 1. "We are planning on finishing our regular season at Joe Louis," Pistons spokesman Matt Dobek said. "We've done our own homework." Dobek said the Pistons were told the Silverdome would not be ready until April 15, even "with great weather and no complicatons. They said April 1 would be a miracle."

DETROIT -- Greetings from Detroit, where it's snowing lightly. The Kings' morning skate at Joe Louis Arena was optional, but it appeared that their lineup Saturday against the Red Wings will be the same as it was in their 4-1 victory over St. Louis on Thursday. Forwards Tanner Pearson and Linden Vey remained on the ice with goaltender Martin Jones for extra work, a sign they'll be scratched. Coach Darryl Sutter left the arena without speaking to the media. It was a jolt to walk into the Red Wings' locker room and see many unfamiliar names affixed to the stalls.

DETROIT - Defenseman Jake Muzzin's emotions swung quickly Thursday from exhilaration to exasperation. The 24-year-old scored the Kings' first goal against St. Louis - his first point in 15 games - but was responsible for the Blues' equalizer after his shot on goal was blocked and turned into a breakaway for T.J. Oshie. Muzzin impeded Oshie, who was awarded a penalty shot and scored. "Stuff's going to happen. There's no sense dwelling on it or letting it affect the rest of your game," he said Friday after the Kings practiced at Joe Louis Arena.

Would someone please send Calvin Scott [Viewpoint, June 7] a map? He could use one, since anyone who has followed hockey over the last 60 years knows that the Red Wings, one of the six original teams (not an expansion team like yours, Cal) have always played in downtown Detroit, first at the grand old Olympia Stadium, home to the best ice in the league, and since 1980, at Joe Louis Arena, still downtown on the Detroit River, named in honor of one of the greatest fighters ever, not after some corporate deal.

Michael Cammalleri has had some reasons to remember Joe Louis Arena, but Monday marked another mini-milestone in his budding career. Cammalleri, a member of the University of Michigan team that won the Central Collegiate Hockey Assn. tournament here in 2002, scored his first goal in Joe Louis Arena as a pro, knocking in a backhand pass from Luc Robitaille 10:54 into the third period. The goal sliced into Detroit's 2-0 lead and helped the Kings gain a point in a 3-2 overtime loss.

Everything was going Detroit's way. Then, the Red Wings slacked off and it almost cost them. Nicklas Lidstrom had two goals and an assist as the Red Wings hung on for a 5-3 victory over the Dallas Stars on Friday night in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals. "You get caught up watching the scoreboard," Detroit Coach Scotty Bowman said. "We dodged a bullet tonight. That's how I feel, and I'm sure that's how the team will feel."
