"Sabotage" is an appropriate title for the new Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, since its many action and suspense elements are routinely undermined by a sloppy assemblage. A hyperviolent tale from complicated-cop chronicler David Ayer ("Training Day," "End of Watch"), the film is about a renegade DEA task force whose members are mysteriously eliminated one by one in the wake of a botched cartel takedown. "Sabotage" was designed to give the grizzled ex-governor, playing the group's veteran leader, a shoot'em-up vehicle bolstered by Ayer's patented macho realism.

"It's harder than anyone thinks for guys to actually be sexy. " Channing Tatum (No. 50 on Empire magazine's list of 100 Sexiest Movie Stars) was on the back patio at Cinema Bar in Culver City, commiserating with Matthew McConaughey (People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" in 2005) and Joe Manganiello (No. 1 on Men's Health magazine's best Summer Bodies of 2011). Although a heady cloud of easy charm and testosterone was forming spontaneously above the picnic table, slowly expanding and intoxicating any females in proximity, Tatum elicited enthusiastic nods from his fellow actors as he explained just how much work it takes for guys like them to be sexy - especially when they're nearly naked.

For Emmys 2012, the season is arguably the perfect marriage of the old and new guard: the stylish institution "Mad Men" and the wicked, awesome "American Horror Story" are tied at 17 nominations each. Imagine the possibilities when you add an open bar. Friday evening kicked off a weekend of partying in Los Angeles, as television stars left soundstages to toast their yearlong efforts. At the top of the night, Variety and Women in Film welcomed small-screen females such as Christina Hendricks, last year's best comedy actress winner Julie Bowen, Padma Lakshmi, Zooey Deschanel, Amy Poehler, Sela Ward and Krysten Ritter to Scarpetta in Beverly Hills.

With a ninth-season renewal still up in the air, the coming eighth season of "How I Met Your Mother" is being laid out as if it's the last. Creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas spoke to reporters Tuesday. CBS, 20th Century Fox TV (the show's producer) and the cast, whose contracts are up at the end of the season, are currently in talks about a ninth season. "We're in an odd conundrum of not knowing whether this season is the last or not," Thomas said. "We're writing this season like it's the end. We'll have a sort of Plan A, Plan B going, and we're approaching the moment where those plans diverge.

"Magic Mike" was stripped of the top spot at the box office by a debaucherous teddy bear, as "Ted" dominated ticket sales at the multiplex this weekend. "Ted," an R-rated raunchfest from "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, debuted with a strong $54.1 million, according to an estimate from distributor Universal Pictures. "Magic Mike," loosely based on star Channing Tatum's own experience as a stripper, also overperformed with a robust opening of $39.2 million. Meanwhile, Tyler Perry's "Madea's Witness Protection" - the filmmaker's first movie to hit theaters during the summer - launched with a solid $26.4 million.

I didn't always yearn to be a film critic. I had other aspirations, other dreams. Being a male stripper, however, was never one of them, and nothing I saw in"Magic Mike"made me want to change my mind. Yes, the new film from director Steven Soderbergh makes it look like there are some pluses to that line of work, at least initially. Women are plentiful and adoring, the parties non-stop, and there is the matter of money - all those ones, fives and tens stuffed into your pants. There's even, we're told, the occasional twenty, but, Magic Mike, played by Channing Tatum, cautions darkly, "You don't want to know what I have to do for twenties.
