The Trinity League quarterbacks are getting lots of love from college recruiters, and the season is still months away. K.J. Costello , a 6-foot-5 junior-to-be quarterback at Sana Margarita, has picked up a scholarship offer from Florida State. He joins Travis Waller of Servite, a senior-to-be with multiple offers, and St. John Bosco's Josh Rosen, who's committed to UCLA. JSerra's Nick Robinson is returning all-leaguer, and don't count out Jack Lowary, a 6-4 quarterback at Mater Dei with a strong arm who's expected to replace Cal-bound Chase Forrest.

It's with great trepidation that I announce news that's going to create more nightmares for the defensive coordinators who must figure out how to stop Bellflower St. John Bosco on the football field this fall: Sean McGrew is getting faster, stronger and even better. Yes, he's the same running back who rushed for 367 yards in 17 carries and scored seven touchdowns in the CIF Open Division regional bowl game against Corona Centennial last season. Last month, he ran the 100 meters in 10.67 seconds, setting a school record.

With Zach LaVine announcing he's leaving UCLA for the NBA, Bruin fans were hoping that St. John Bosco's Daniel Hamilton, the younger brother of UCLA redshirt Isaac Hamilton, might decide to join the Bruins to help replace LaVine. But Daniel Hamilton said Saturday after scoring 22 points in the Braves' Division II state championship victory over Folsom that he's headed to Connecticut. He said he likes Connecticut Coach Kevin Ollie, a former Crenshaw player who made a similar move to the East Coast.

A season of trials and tribulations for St. John Bosco came to a pleasing end for the Braves when they held off Folsom, 63-54, to win the Division II state championship on Saturday at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. St. John Bosco relied on the clutch play of Daniel Hamilton (22 points), Tyler Dorsey (21) and Vance Jackson (16) to end a season of ups and downs on a high note. Nothing came easy for the Braves, particularly the final 2 1/2 minutes that featured five turnovers. "I haven't worked that hard in years," Coach Derrick Taylor said in trying to settle down his team.
