John Patrick O'Hara, director of corporate security for Los Angeles-based Flying Tiger Line Inc., was named Thursday to head the staff of the newly formed House committee that will investigate the Iran- contra controversy. The 55-year-old O'Hara, who will be the executive director of the committee's Democratic majority staff, is a former FBI agent who joined Flying Tiger last year.

Secretary of State George P. Shultz, contradicting earlier accounts of a Dec. 13 meeting between U.S. and Iranian officials, said Tuesday that he authorized the session to send a message that there will be no further American arms sales to Tehran.
