Human rights activist John Prendergast, a foreign policy advisor to the stars, met with President Obama and his new Sudan special envoy, Air Force Gen. J. Scott Gration, this week to discuss the deteriorating situation in Darfur. Prendergast, who has advised celebs as varied as NBA star Tracy McGrady and actors Don Cheadle and Angelina Jolie, was welcomed to the White House along with Omer Ismail, a senior advisor to Prendergast's Enough project.

Actor George Clooney will have Santa Monica auction house Gooding & Co. auction his 2008 Tesla “Signature 100” Roadster to raise money for a nonprofit that uses satellites to monitor the tense border between South Sudan and Sudan for war crimes and other violence. The Roadster, the eighth built by the Palo Alto-based electric car company, has been driven 1,700 miles. It is expected to sell for $100,000 to $125,000. Clooney designated the Satellite Sentinel Project as the sale beneficiary.

Thomas Lubanga, a Congolese militia leader facing charges of recruiting child soldiers to rape and kill, on Monday became the first defendant to go on trial at the International Criminal Court at The Hague. The court is the world's first permanent venue to prosecute war crimes, genocide and other major crimes against humanity. What if the conflict many call the "first genocide of the 21st century" weren't one at all? In the United States, many see the six-year war in Darfur as a bloody campaign by a Sudanese Arab-dominated government against rebellious "African" tribes in western Sudan. Two consecutive American presidents and several activist groups have defined it as genocide. But others, while acknowledging the severity of the violence, question whether it meets the legal definition of genocide.
