I have been in the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, under the direction and guidance of John-Roger, for 17 years. I continue to experience the incredibly positive results in my life of his teachings and I see similar results in the lives of my friends. I and many others give thanks every day that he is a part of our lives. I attribute, in part, the happiness and peace that I am enjoying now to my association with John-Roger. So for me, what you published in your newspaper as fact, is gossip and the opinions of a very small group of people.

Even the Mystical Traveler had to admit: Oct. 5 was a particularly trying day in a trying season. Earlier in the fall, California's Senate race had taken a weird hop, with national media and Democratic spin doctors suddenly blasting Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington, wife of Republican candidate Mike Huffington, for her involvement with spiritual teacher John-Roger and his Church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, or MSIA.

When English teacher Roger Hinkins appeared, chalk to blackboard, in the 1970 Rosemead High School yearbook, nothing in his pleasant demeanor suggested that a peculiar occurrence had radically changed his life.

Overcoming negativity is integral to the teachings of the Los Angeles-based Church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, and its founder, John-Roger, whom followers believe is the embodiment of a Christ-like power called the "Mystical Traveler Consciousness" and something called the "Preceptor Consciousness."

In the Feb. 20 View section, there was an article entitled "Eyes on a Cosmic Prize" which contained misinformation about John-Roger, spiritual director of the Church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness. John-Roger is not a "new age leader." Our church does not consider itself a "new age" church. The Church of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness is an ecumenical church that presents a new look at ancient spiritual philosophies. John-Roger does not have a "cause."

What was the purpose of the article about John-Roger, apart from airing hearsay and gossip more suited to a tabloid in the guise of an informative albeit highly inaccurate feature? John-Roger's home, for instance, is certainly comfortable; to imply it is anything more is exaggeration. It seems appropriate for John-Roger to fly first class, given the tremendous number of hours he spends traveling in the services of the organizations he directs. His late model Lincoln Continental is a step up from the brown Chrysler he drove for years, but a far cry from what is considered a luxury automobile in this town.
