Tim Tebow spent 2-1/2 hours training Monday at an Arizona community college, a hot scoop first reported by TMZ. Since when is a professional athlete working out considered big news? Well, pretty much everything Tebow does is big news. And he's also a big-name NFL quarterback who some people think was woefully underused as a backup for the New York Jets this season. And that's a pretty long workout for the off-season. Plus, there's got to be a reason he chose to do all those sprints and drills with his personal trainer at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix.

The Arizona Cardinals and daredevil Felix Baumgartner both know the feeling of tumbling toward Earth from a record height. Baumgartner had a parachute. The Cardinals have a chance Sunday to stop their fall. After winning their first four games for the first time since 1974, the Cardinals have lost two in a row heading into their Week 7 game at Minnesota. Arizona's three games after that? Home against San Francisco, then on the road against Green Bay and Atlanta. The Cardinals are heading into their most daunting stretch of the season with uncertainty at quarterback - Kevin Kolb left Sunday's loss to Buffalo because of sore ribs and was replaced by the previously injured John Skelton - and more injuries at running back.

Jake Locker did not start any games during his rookie season with the Tennessee Titans last year and was just named the team's 2012 starter a few days ago. But he certainly acted like a team leader on Thursday night, throwing for a pair of touchdowns and earning a passer rating of 109.2 in the Titans' 32-27 preseason victory over the Arizona Cardinals. “He's our leader,” Titans tight end Jared Cook said of Locker, who was drafted eighth overall by Tennessee in 2011. “We had all the confidence in him. He made plays out there.” Titans Coach Mike Munchak added: "He does things that people wouldn't notice he was doing that most young quarterbacks wouldn't even think of being able to handle.

Tiger Woods had his lowest opening round in three years Friday in the Deutsche Bank Championship. It still wasn't enough to be low man in Sean Foley's coaching stable. Seung-yul Noh, a rising star from South Korea in his first season on the PGA Tour, ran off four straight birdies early in his round and closed with back-to-back birdies on the TPC Boston in Norton, Mass., for a nine-under 62. That gave him a one-shot lead over Chris Kirk, whose 23 putts included an eagle on the new 18th hole.

What a boomerang of a few years it has been for Matt Flynn. The former Green Bay backup quarterback has re-signed with the Packers after a series of false starts with Seattle, Oakland and Buffalo. Flynn will back up Scott Tolzien, a promoted practice-squad player who was bumped up because of injuries to starter Aaron Rodgers and backup Seneca Wallace. In his previous go-round with the Packers, Flynn backed up Rodgers and won a Super Bowl ring after the 2010 season. He caught the eye of other teams that season when he threw for 480 yards and six touchdowns in a Week 16 game against Detroit.

Alex Smith's career with the San Francisco 49ers appears to be over. A tweet from CBS' Jason La Canfora on Sunday said that a deal that would send the 49ers' former starting quarterback to another team is "effectively complete. " Such a transaction, however, can not actually take place until the NFL year begins on March 12. So until then, all we can do is speculate. The Jacksonville Jaguars would seem to be a likely candidate, with the Blaine Gabbert experiment not working out so well after two subpar seasons.
