Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith rocked out, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner got the word out and a constellation of celebrities took their wallets out -- to the tune of $830,000 -- at a charity event and mini-concert organized by John Varvatos and funding a program helping child victims of sexual assault. That brings the total raised by the annual event over the last decade to $3.53 million, with funds going to the Stuart House , a program created by the Rape Treatment Center at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center to serve the special needs of sexually abused children.  While the silent auction and a spirited live auction helped the event easily outstrip last year's $700,000 fundraiser , honorary co-chairs Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck underscored the benefit's other goal of shining a light on the topic of childhood sexual abuse -- and programs that deal with it. "When I first visited Stuart House eight or nine years ago, I was so impressed with how safe it felt," Garner told the crowd.  In his comments, Affleck explained that he got involved because his wife had hosted an earlier incarnation of the event.

Rock 'n' roll-loving menswear designer John Varvatos is apparently going a little bit country, tapping Willie Nelson and the singer's two youngest sons, Lukas and Micah Nelson, to be the face of the brand's fall 2013 advertising campaign. Shot by photographer Danny Clinch, the campaign images capture the troika of Nelsons in full family portrait mode at the Salisbury House in Des Moines (a '20s-era Tudor Revival manse built for cosmetics magnate Carl Weeks). Willie is wearing a black, two-button, notch lapel JV "Hampton" tuxedo, a white dress shirt with a wing collar and French cuffs (paired with his own boots, we're told)

Lupita Nyong'o, Kate Mara and Elle Fanning were honored in West Hollywood on Tuesday night at an event celebrating their separate May covers for Marie Claire. (Two other May cover girls, Emilia Clarke of "Game of Thrones" and Elizabeth Olsen, didn't make it to the event, but plenty of other stars turned out, including Zooey Deschanel, Mena Suvari, Nikki Reed, Jordana Brewster and Naya Rivera.) [WWD] The Vogue magazine cover featuring Kanye West and Kim Kardashian set off a furor in the fashion world, which thought the pair unworthy, but the issue appears to be on track to become a top-seller.

Vera Wang was honored with American fashion's highest award on Monday night, receiving the Council of Fashion Designers of America's Womenswear Designer of the Year award. The awards, held at the New York Public Library, also singled out John Varvatos as Menswear Designer of the Year. Wang, a former Vogue editor, revolutionized the bridal wear market in the 1990s, offering simple, modern alternatives to the prevailing frou-frou styles.

Next week, when his men's collection hits the Milan runway, New York designer John Varvatos will be firing the opening salvo in a bid to make his rock-flavored label the next American lifestyle brand to go global. In nine years, he's managed to make fashion safe for men, invented the laceless Converse Chuck Taylor slip-on and turned New York's CBGB nightclub into a clothing boutique. To paraphrase the Talking Heads, who got their start in the same 315 Bowery St.

Whether you're looking for a gift for an aspiring fashionista or a treat for yourself, a couple of books published this fall might fill the bill. In " Rock in Fashion ," menswear designer John Varvatos breaks down the elements of rock 'n' roll style that have inspired him since his youth in Detroit in the 1960s and '70s, looks including Robert Plant's "way too small" girls' blouses, Elvis Costello's shades and Bob Dylan's scarves. More than a fashion book, it is a rich catalog of men's style with more than 250 photographs of rock gods, from the Rolling Stones to the Kings of Leon.

Thanks to an online auction that allowed bidding to continue long after the music had faded, the amount raised by last month's John Varvatos Stuart House fundraiser hosted by honorary co-chairs Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner has topped $950,000 -- the largest amount in the annual event's decade-long history. The tally stood at an already-impressive $830,000 the day after the March 10 charity event and raised primarily through a spirited live auction. Pepping up the atmosphere was a live performance by Aerosmith's Steven Tyler and Joe Perry.

The look and feel of the modern man's closet owes much to the military. Standard-issue pieces including the trench coat, the khaki trouser and aviator-style sunglasses have come to the wardrobe via the warrior. Over the years, a handful of clothing makers now considered "heritage" brands have also benefited from military connections. Supplying the troops gave these companies the boost into the public consciousness (not to mention the revenue stream) that a shout-out on "Oprah" might have in more recent times.
