When judging acting performances, Emmy voters aren't considering seasons or story arcs or multiple episodes or whether the actor ignored/embraced them the last time they found themselves at the valet station together. At least, they're not supposed to be taking these things into consideration. They are voting solely on the one episode submitted on the actor's behalf. That's it. And by that criteria, there's really only one choice for this year's lead actor drama Emmy: "Mad Men's" Jon Hamm.

"Humor Abuse" -- the comedic memoir play by Lorenzo Pisoni that recently opened at the Mark Taper Forum -- has received a significant publicity boost thanks to a related Kickstarter campaign launched with the help of "Mad Men" actor Jon Hamm. Organizers of the Kickstarter campaign hope to raise at least $60,000 toward a documentary movie that will be made about Pisoni, an actor who grew up in a family of circus performers. Jon Hamm, floppy-haired dating-show contestant. It's not an upcoming role but rather one the "Mad Men" star already played, back in 1996. And hoo-boy, the hair! Bradley Cooper in "American Hustle" has nothing on this guy, if you trade the '70s for the '90s. Footage of a 25-year-old Hamm on "The Big Date" was recently posted online, showing the struggling actor (billing himself as a waiter) as one of three men competing for the attention of 25-year-old Mary Carter, who told host Mark L. Walberg (now of "Antiques Roadshow")

The first time Jon Hamm ever saw himself on screen was as an extra in a Missouri lottery commercial. Aaron Paul's debut was a Method-acted Corn Pops commercial, while Julianna Margulies learned the dangers of lying about job skills on her first movie. She had told Steven Seagal she was Puerto Rican, only to have him request she speak her lines in Spanish: “I was like, you know, I'm a Jew and Spanish is not my second language.... I was mortified that that was my first moment on the screen.” Their "firsts" was one of many topics discussed when The Times brought together Claire Danes (“Homeland”)

Lily Collins, star of "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" and daughter of singer/songwriter Phil Collins, has another credit to add to her list: "Most Dangerous Cyber Celebrity. There once existed an era in which cable network AMC was not synonymous with prestige dramas. a time that could be categorized as B.M.M. - Before “Mad Men.” And that's what Jon Hamm, the man at the center of the drama that would usher in a new age for AMC, bears in mind as the show's farewell tour gets underway. Hamm was on hand Friday night at the show's PaleyFest panel in Hollywood - alongside costars Vincent Kartheiser, Elisabeth Moss, Christina Hendricks, Robert Morse, Jessica Pare, and Kiernan Shipka - where reflection was an overriding theme, particularly since it's not easy talking about the future of the vigilantly guarded series.  PHOTOS: Preview the final season of 'Mad Men' Pointing to his introductory moments on the set of the pilot, better remembered as “the knee-trembling abject of terror,” Hamm underscored just how much risk rested in those initial scenes.

Even in these halcyon days of television excellence, not every niche network can afford to launch a prestige drama all on its own. But the Joneses must be kept up with somehow, and what better way than with a BBC import starring "Mad Men's" Jon Hamm and "Harry Potter's" Daniel Radcliffe? At least that's what the folks at the art 'n' culture network Ovation are counting on. And it's definitely not a case of brand distortion. "A Young Doctor's Notebook," which premieres Wednesday, is based on an autobiographical short-story collection by Russian physician turned novelist and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov.

Shhh! No spoilers around Jon Hamm. The man is lagging on his "Breaking Bad" viewing. "I didn't see last Sunday's because I was at the Emmys," he said Thursday. "I'm one behind. " Hamm was taking part in a Q&A with a handful of journalists to promote the stateside release of "A Young Doctor's Notebook" on Ovation (check back here next week for more on that), but the looming series finale of the sister show to Hamm's other series, "Mad Men," on AMC became a topic of discussion -- particularly "Breaking Bad's" recent golden moment.

"Playgrounds. " It's just one word, but it's Elisabeth Moss' favorite line from her four seasons of pretty great lines on "Mad Men. " Moss delivers that word during the fourth-season episode "The Suitcase," essentially a two-character show featuring Moss' earnest copywriter Peggy Olson and her mercurial boss, Don Draper (Jon Hamm). The story takes the characters through the course of a long evening, ending with Don breaking down after learning that his friend Anna, "the only person who really knew" him, has died.

Credit the healing powers of comedy? Kim Kardashian and Jon Hamm reportedly mended fences at the "30 Rock" live broadcast in New York on Thursday. After Hamm, in a March interview, labeled Kardashian an "idiot" member of a reality-TV culture in which "stupidity is certainly celebrated," both stars went on defense regarding the content of her character (or at least the one she plays on TV). And there they stayed until the reality star hit 30 Rockefeller Plaza for a quick cameo alongside Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin, joining an event that also recruited Jimmy Fallon, Paul McCartney, "SNL's" Fred Armisen and, well, Jon Hamm.

Don Draper - the irresistible, womanizing advertising executive with a haunting, secret past - is one of television's most memorable, iconic characters. Yet Jon Hamm, the actor who has embodied Draper through six seasons of “Mad Men,” has failed to seduce one elusive woman: Her name is Emmy. "Mad Men” has won four Emmy Awards for outstanding drama series. Hamm, the central force around which the rest of the show orbits, has been nominated six times for the acting honors but has never won. This year, the buzz is that he is far from being a sure bet to take the golden statuette.
