Most of us have our heroes. One of mine has always been Helen Thomas, dean of the White House press corps, right up there with Nellie Bly and Brenda Starr. Bigger than life. It was a thrill to finally meet the feisty reporter, who was the special guest at a luncheon hosted by supporters of the Music Center and PBS station KCET. (Club 100 of the Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles County and KCET Women's Council sponsored the May 12 luncheon.

CBS' Emmy-winning reality show, "The Amazing Race," has seen its share of eclectic contestants come and go over the series' 13 seasons: beauty pageant winners and bickering married couples, jock siblings and even little people. But this winter's installment marks the first time that "Race" has included a "Hollywood star" in its contestant ranks -- even if that famous face hardly counts as a household name.

JON KASDAN's earliest childhood memory is truly cinematic. He was an actor sitting in a bathtub on the set of "The Big Chill," a film co-written and directed by his father, Lawrence Kasdan. "I remember noticing that rather than being a real bathtub in the wall, it was just a wood frame of a bathtub, and being a little disturbed by that," Jon said.
