A 48-year-old Santa Ana man was killed in a downtown crosswalk early Tuesday after he was run over by a motorist who was captured minutes later by another driver who chased him, police said. Jose Hector Nava was killed "instantly" at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday as he walked across 2nd Street at Main Street, said Maureen Thomas, a spokeswoman for the Santa Ana Police Department.

A Marine corporal from Tustin and two Santa Ana men have been honored for outstanding community service by the City Council for helping catch a driver who struck a man in a crosswalk and then sped away. Jon Eric Tate, 24, a production controller at the Tustin Marine Corps Air Station, watched one morning last month as the driver of a Chevrolet Impala sped through an intersection in downtown Santa Ana, striking a man crossing the street.

Pete Montrenes pitched his second no-hitter of the season to help Ocean View beat Westminster, 4-0, in a Golden West League baseball game Wednesday. Montrenes (7-2) struck out 10. Shawn White hit a two-run homer and John Clark was three for three with a run batted in. Ocean View is 10-9, 6-2. Westminster dropped to 4-4 in league. In other league games: No. 6 Servite 9, Santa Ana 1--Servite's Mark Goldsmith had two hits and two RBIs.
