Galici defeated the challenger with a powerful right hook after a flurry of punches. Galici said afterwards that he wants to meet WBC welterweight champion Jorge Vaca of Mexico.

Quincy Taylor, while coming back from what seemed to be certain defeat, saw his hopes snatched away when he and Jorge Vaca banged heads in the sixth round of a lively junior-middleweight fight before 5,160 at the Forum Monday night. Taylor seemed to have turned the fight around from the opening seconds of the sixth, starting with a right-left combination that rocked the more aggressive Vaca for the first time in the fight.

Junior middleweights Jorge Vaca and Quincy Taylor will have a rematch of their December fight tonight at the Forum. Vaca (41-8-1) was ahead on points in the previous meeting when an unintentional butt by Taylor (15-2) cut Vaca on the head in the sixth round, forcing a stoppage. Vaca won on a technical decision. Taylor, from Dallas, won last year's Forum junior-middleweight tournament. Vaca, from Mexico City, is a former World Boxing Council welterweight champion.

Greg Wallace of Oakland, 2-2 with one knockout, will fight former U.S. Olympic boxer Fernando Vargas of Oxnard, making his professional debut, March 25 at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. The four-round welterweight bout will be televised live nationally by USA cable network. In a 12-round main event, Kip Diggs (27-2, 19 knockouts) will defend his North American Boxing Federation welterweight title against Derrell Coley (29-1-2).

Former World Boxing Council welterweight champion Jorge Vaca of Mexico scored a unanimous 10-round decision over Quincy Taylor of Dallas on Monday night. Vaca, who weighed 153 1/4 pounds, raised his record to 44-8 with 35 knockouts. Taylor, who weighed 153 pounds, fell to 15-3 with 12 knockouts. Vaca received a 97-93 decision on one scorecard, while two others had it 98-92 in his favor.

The Oct. 8 Forum rematch between Paul Banke, the World Boxing Council super-bantamweight champion, and Daniel Zaragoza was postponed indefinitely Wednesday after Zaragoza's physicians advised him not to fight, a Forum spokesman said. Zaragoza was examined in Mexico City after complaining of severe headaches and an earache. The bout was to have been the third meeting between the two.
