Forget the Scots. Golf was invented in America. There's a petroglyph at Chaco Canyon in New Mexico showing Kokopelli, a mystical Anasazi figure, holding a 9-iron. The descendants of the ancestral Puebloans now have run amok with the sport, and tribal golf is about as good as it gets in California. Here's a look at some favorite courses. Barona Creek Golf Club The green you play: Several years ago a wildfire threatened the Barona Resort & Casino in Lakeside, burning the margins of the golf course.

One leg of the space shuttle Endeavour's final journey has been delayed because of bad weather, but the craft will still arrive in Los Angeles on schedule Thursday, NASA announced Sunday. Endeavour was to travel from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla., to Houston on Monday but the flight was pushed back one day because of storms. Despite the delay, the shuttle -- mounted on a Boeing 747 aircraft -- will still do low-level flyovers in Florida, Texas, New Mexico and Northern and Southern California before touching down in L.A. After arriving, Endeavour will spend several weeks in the United Airlines hangar at Los Angeles International Airport undergoing preparations for a two-day, 12-mile journey on Oct. 12 and 13 via surface streets to the California Science Center in Exposition Park.

It was built for orbital speeds approaching five miles per second, but space shuttle Endeavour took its own sweet time Sunday as it wheeled triumphantly onto the grounds of its new home, the California Science Center. "Mission 26 - mission accomplished," Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced, amid the cheers of thousands of spectators. Before it was retired by NASA, the spacecraft had logged 25 flight missions. However, its final journey was slowed by unexpected maintenance issues and last-minute maneuvers to avoid obstacles like trees and utility poles.

Documentarian Heather Courtney admits she had "no clear idea" what her story would be while mulling what would become "Where Soldiers Come From," an intimate look at three young Army reservists — and two of their families — from her rural hometown on Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Despite the film's unvarnished emotionality and even-handed messaging, Courtney never seems to have found an appropriate focus, resulting in a work that's less urgent and involving than its intense subject matter might have dictated.

By this time they've taken their graduation tassels and yearbooks and put them away in a box with all the other mementos of high school. For many newly minted graduates, summer is the time to make travel plans. They have airplane tickets to buy, or long drives in August and September to think about. They will journey over the Tejon Pass, or across the Mojave Desert, to the college towns and dorm rooms that await them.

On May 29 the Olympic torch began an epic 70-day journey that will take it all over England and into Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The 8,000-mile trip will end on July 27 at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford. Catching a glimpse of the torch in real life will be easy for residents of Britain -- the organizers of the Olympic relay say that 95% of Britain's population will be within a one-hour drive of the torch's route. The BBC has created an exhaustive webpage that tracks the torch's journey, even giving the times the torch is expected to enter each town as well as a weather report for that day. As for non-residents of Britain, we can get in on the fun too. We may not be able to see the torch ourselves, but we can follow its journey thanks to an interactive " story map " created by the geographic information services mapping company ESRI.  ESRI's map shows all the places that the torch will be stopping, and lets you know where it currently is on its route.

The first poem Peleg Top put in the poetry box outside his Silver Lake home: “Bless This Journey” I look ahead and see no destination I look behind and see thousands of questions I look down and hear my heart melting I look forward and take a deep breath   The next step could be the one that drowns me that drops me into my abyss   The next step could be the one that leads me into my unknown ...
