"Day by Day" is almost too awful for words. The preschool children on the show are rosy-cheeked cherubs who do nothing but laugh and cheer in unison. Most of the older characters strain so hard to be hip that it soon becomes a mere embarrassment. How does a program like this manage to get on the air? The program's one bright spot is Julia-Louis Dreyfus. With her fast delivery and wicked grin, she gives the screaming laugh-track a run for its money and actually transcends the manic tedium surrounding the show.

Then there's Julia Louis-Dreyfus' classically beautiful, merlot-colored silk tulle Vera Wang mermaid gown with ruched accents on the bodice. And Tina Fey is wearing a strapless deep burgundy gown with corset detailing by Vivienne Westwood. But Ginnifer Goodwin's Monique Lhuillier dress with a high-low hem is my favorite so far because it's so unusual.
