During her four seasons gliding through "Dancing With the Stars" in skin-tight, bedazzled body suits and spray tans, professional ballroom dancer Julianne Hough confidently guided an Olympic gold medalist and an Indianapolis 500 champion to victory. Getting Hollywood directors to consider her a true leading lady, however, hasn't been easy. "When people's primary association with you is dancing around in a sequin costume being sweet and happy, that sophistication doesn't always come through," said Diablo Cody, the writer of films including "Juno" and "Young Adult" who encountered Hough when looking for stars for her directorial debut, "Paradise," due out later this year.

For her first stint in the director's chair, "Juno" screenwriter Diablo Cody has concocted a modern-day "Alice Through the Looking Glass," with none of the danger or wit. "Paradise" follows a home-schooled, Jesus-loving Montana lass who loses her faith and heads to Sin City to experience the corrupting power of real life. The not-so-wild ride is essentially sappy, however much of Cody's self-consciously barbed dialogue its characters are forced to utter. As the symbolically named Lamb, Julianne Hough is sweetly intent on a firsthand encounter with "your basic abominations.

When Julianne Hough arrived in Los Angeles at 18 after leaving her devout Mormon family behind in Utah, she quickly realized she was a novelty in Hollywood. “People were really curious about why I didn't drink,” she recalled, standing on a red carpet Tuesday evening promoting her new film, “Paradise.” “They were always asking if I was sober. I was like, 'No, I'm just Mormon.' It was kind of a shock for them, and they treated me like a little toy.” Hough, now 25, found herself reflecting on her upbringing as she prepared for “Paradise,” screenwriter Diablo Cody's directorial debut, which premieres on DirecTV on Friday.

Lindsay Lohan brought the drama Monday morning, showing up almost an hour late for a court hearing at which she eventually copped a last-minute plea deal that'll send her to to a locked-down rehab facility for 90 days. The drama actually started the night before, with Lohan reportedly skipping one flight Saturday and skipping off of another on Sunday right before it took off for L.A. from JFK. That put her in the position of having to hunt down a private jet to get her where she needed to go in time for the 8:30 a.m. hearing Monday.

Blake Shelton: Rumor demystifier. Miranda Lambert: Sidekick. The case: Have they called it quits? The answer: Nope, y'all. The country couple took to Twitter over the weekend to ridicule a Life & Style cover story alleging that the two were headed to splitsville due to Shelton flirting with 26-year-old singer Cady Groves. And something pretty adorable ensued when the two tore down the fourth wall with a sense of humor. "Hey @mirandalambert… I just read in a tabloid that our marriage is falling apart!

"Safe Haven," the latest weepie from a Nicholas Sparks novel, takes close to two hours to get where it's going - the intersection of Lovers Lane and nowhere. Starring Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel, this sloppy sentimental journey is long on beauty shots, short on depth and seriously intent on tugging your heartstrings. Indeed, it demands you reach for those tissues. Sob. The real cause for tears is that Oscar-nominated director Lasse Hallstrom finds himself in the Nicholas Sparks business these days.
