A charming and funny 1997 remake of the French hit "An Indian in the City," it fits Tim Allen (left) like a glove while retaining everything that made the original such a delight. Allen plays a workaholic Wall Street commodities trader who makes a rush trip to the Amazonian jungle to complete his divorce from his long-estranged wife (a wryly amused JoBeth Williams).

Two of Hollywood's hottest actresses, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o and Marvel heroine Scarlett Johansson, could be uniting for Disney's upcoming live-action and CGI hybrid adaptation of "The Jungle Book," according to the Hollywood Reporter. Nyong'o is in final negotiations to voice Raksha, a mother wolf who adopts the human orphan Mowgli, while Johansson is in earlier stages of talks to play the mesmerizing python Kaa, a secondary villain, the Reporter says . Jon Favreau, who worked with Johansson on "Iron Man 2" and the upcoming culinary comedy "Chef," is directing "The Jungle Book.

"Watch out for that tree!" people are always screaming at George, and not without reason. Plucky but maladroit, this 1997 Tarzan knockoff is liable to bang into almost anything but, like those old Timex watches, he takes a licking and keeps on ticking. This version, directed by Sam Weisman and starring Brendan Fraser (pictured with Leslie Mann) as the vine-swinging stalwart, tries to recapture the wised-up cleverness of the original but only partly succeeds (KABC Sunday at 7 p.m.).

Morgan's Rock Hacienda and Ecolodge in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, is the best place I've stayed in Central America. There are 15 exquisite bungalows set in a 4,000-acre jungle. We had the entire beach to ourselves, where we rode horses. The kids also toured the farm where they milked cows and took the eggs from the hen and made a wonderful breakfast (hands-on cooking, where they learned to make tortillas from scratch). We went on beautiful rain-forest hikes and dined at its wonderful restaurant - really had it all in one spot.

When your song refers to "the eye of the tiger" -- as the latest from Katy Perry does -- you can more or less go two ways with your visuals: boxing ring or jungle. Having donned a pair of gloves (a la Rocky Balboa) for her performance of "Roar" on last month's MTV Video Music Awards, Perry takes to the wild in the just-released clip for her new single, which this week reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100. TIMELINE: Summer's must see concerts The video opens just as Perry and a mate have crash-landed in a jungle, after which the singer, operating with her usual pluck, takes over the place and starts taking selfies with monkeys and brushing alligators' teeth.

Jean-Claude Van Damme - don't! Don't go into the jungle! No matter what the title says, there is no welcome waiting for you. Before the nonsensical "Welcome to the Jungle" is barely underway, the "Universal Soldier" goes sadly soft; Van Damme's Storm is reduced to a whimpering shower. There is no "Double Impact" where he is concerned, or really any impact. BEST MOVIES OF 2013: Turan | Sharkey | Olsen The former black-ops hero he plays is now a corporate consultant brought in to run a weekend team-building retreat for a packaging-design company whose main client appears to be toilet paper.

Ever wonder what made Suzanne Collins come up with the idea for "The Hunger Games"? It's a pretty terrifying story: Teenagers are set loose in the woods and forced to fight to the death. Hmm, maybe that year Collins' dad spent in Vietnam has something to do with it. Her next book may shed some light -- although it will be an unusual light. "Year of the Jungle" is an autobiographical book about the year Collins was in first grade and her father was a soldier in Vietnam. But it's a picture book.

There's no disappearing into the background in this season's new, don't-mess-with-me camouflage and animal prints. Alexis Bittar's "Santa Fe Deco" necklace mixes a zebra Lucite bib with luxe jewels, while Eddie Borgo's "Moon" ring is set with a rock crystal, onyx and jade "horn" that spans four fingers. Dries Van Noten's satin clutch boasts exotic plumage, and Nicholas Kirkwood's ankle boots spout fox fur pelts for the toes. But the ultimate luxe urban jungle trophy is from Michael Kors: a camo mink coat that yells, "I am woman, hear me roar.

A ranch-style house in the jungle? In the Valley ? It may sound odd--unless you're author, naturalist and conservationist Arnold Newman. Over the last 26 years, Newman has turned his Sherman Oaks home into an Amazonian habitat inside and out for his wife, two kids and menagerie of dogs and cats, birds and turtles, fish and frogs, snakes and lizards. A stand of towering bamboo marks the slate path to Casa de la Selva (literally, House of the Jungle).

Emerging from the African jungle, my knees wobbled as I carefully traversed the missing slats in the rickety footbridge. In the river chasm below, a dozen sunbathing crocodiles were awaiting my first misstep. This surreal safari scene seemed real enough to me -- even though I knew the make-believe jungle was deep inside a theme park carved out of Florida swampland. Disney's Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Fla., has been offering the three-hour Wild Africa Trek for about a month now, taking about a dozen visitors at a time on VIP guided tours through the theme park's Pangani Forest.

Andy Serkis, the actor who breathed life into the computer-generated characters of Gollum in the "Lord of the Rings" movies and Caesar in "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and the upcoming "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," will make his directorial debut with a live-action adaptation of "The Jungle Book" for Warner Bros., according to the Hollywood Reporter. It is unclear if Serkis will star in the film, THR reports . Though he is best known as an actor, Serkis does have directing chops too: He served as a second unit director on Peter Jackson's two "Hobbit" movies, including the elaborate and widely praised barrel chase scene in "The Desolation of Smaug.

In Greg Pierce's "Slowgirl" at the Geffen Playhouse, 17-year-old Becky (Rae Gray) comes to visit her Uncle Sterling (William Petersen), who left the U.S. years earlier for Costa Rica. She's freaked out by his primitive jungle lifestyle, which is charmingly evoked by Richard Woodbury's sound design and the tropical leaves that hang above Takeshi Kata's delicate, bare-bones set, configured tennis-court style with the audience on either side (an approach that heightens naturalism but also impedes sightlines)

"Mozart in the Jungle" -- a satirical look at the classical-music world that stars Gael Garcia Bernal as a thinly veiled parody of conductor Gustavo Dudamel -- has been picked up by Amazon, the online retailer announced this week. The pilot episode of the racy comedy was released online earlier this year. In addition to "Mozart," Amazon Studios has picked up "The After," from "X-Files" veteran Chris Carter; "Transparent," a domestic comedy; and "Bosch," based on the novels by Michael Connelly.

In "Pacific Rim," a score-settling Idris Elba demonstrated he has the eye of the tiger. Now he'll show that he has the voice of one as well. UCLA Coach Jim Mora charged up the significance meter Tuesday, as the Bruins head into their Pac-12 opener at Utah. “We're entering the jungle,” Mora said. “You can't have a slip-up.” The No. 12 Bruins (3-0) have won only one of their last five conference openers, and that was on the road at Oregon State in 2011. UCLA lost to Oregon State in the Rose Bowl to open conference play in 2012. Utah is 3-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Every team in the Pac-12 South Division already has one conference loss except UCLA.

They're equatorial Huckleberry Finns, two wild-hearted boys guiding an old wooden fishing boat along a wide and mighty river. Fandi and Alfan, brothers with one name each, live in a remote village in the heart of the Sumatran jungle, at once a protected and dangerous place to be a child. Most mornings they rise before their rooster crows, bolting down a meager breakfast of coconut and chile-spiced vegetables over rice before venturing out on their journey: rowing to school aboard a hand-carved 15-foot sampan.
