Justin Timberlake

The last time Justin Timberlake put out an album was 2006. The electro-R&B singer made suavely ludicrous promises to bring “sexy back” to pop charts that had apparently been neglecting such.   Seven years and a "Social Network" later, Timberlake is back, and we're pleased to report that the results are quite sexy. "Suit & Tie" is a radiant, ramshackle song that's less of a coherent single and more of a coronation event. It grafts at least three different Timberlake settings -- the slow-rolling futurist, crisp-collared soul man and backseat driver to a rap kingpin (here, Jay-Z)

Last summer Timbaland revealed he had been tapped to produce a new posthumous Michael Jackson album. The Grammy award-winning producer and rapper didn't offer many details, except the project was being helmed by Epic Records head L.A. Reid and that he had “a lot of unreleased” material to work with. As part of his Timbaland Thursday series of free tunes, the producer unleashed a snippet of a remixed version of “Slave to the Rhythm.” A version of the previously unreleased track surfaced last year featuring Justin Bieber trading verses with the late King of Pop over a pulsating, and generic, Europop beat.

Justin Timberlake's comeback album has sold nearly 1 million units its first week out. Nielsen SoundScan announced Tuesday that the singer's "The 20/20 Experience" has moved 968,000 units. It is the 19th album in Nielsen's 22-year history that has sold more than 900,000 albums in a single week. "20/20" is Timberlake's third album and the follow-up to his multiplatinum, Grammy-winning 2006 album, "FutureSex/LoveSound. " The new CD features the pop hit "Suit & Tie. " FOR THE RECORD: Justin Timberlake sales: A Quick Takes item in the March 27 Calendar section about first-week sales for Justin Timberlake's album "The 20/20 Experience" said that it was the 19th album in Nielsen SoundScan's 22-year history to sell more than 900,000 albums in a single week.

Despite Ryan Seacrest spending hours on the red carpet talking couture lifestyle with platinum-selling music stars, it was the artists who celebrated second-hand culture who busted through the pomp to win many of the 56th Grammy Awards' most coveted trophies. In fact, at times the ceremony Sunday at Los Angeles' Staples Center felt like a night for the underdogs - at least as much as anyone standing before millions of viewers on music's biggest stage can be considered such. A young woman from New Zealand, Lorde, who this time last year was gigging at small clubs, arrived in a no-name sleeveless tee to celebrate diamondless lives in "Royals.

Just as we were giving Justin Timberlake a bit of credit for his sly comeback to Kanye West, the singer is already backtracking. In case you missed it during Timberlake's guest stint on NBC's “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend,  he switched the lyrics to his hit “Suit & Tie,” which appeared to be a witty retort to West's diss of Timberlake's laid-back comeback record “My hit's so sick, got rappers acting dramatic,” Timberlake coolly...

Many poetic tributes have been made to Robin Gibb, the beloved singer who passed on Sunday after a long battle with cancer, including some 140-character thoughts from his Hollywood admirers. "We have lost a truly brilliant musician today. One of my idols. My heart goes out to the Gibb family in this time of sorrow...RIP Robin," wrote Justin Timberlake, who famously portrayed Robin several times on "Saturday Night Live" alongside Jimmy Fallon's Barry Gibb. An embattled John Travolta spoke out (despite his ongoing masseuse scandal)

On Wednesday evening musician/actor Justin Timberlake tossed off a mysterious tweet that said, simply, “Thursday, January 10th, 9:01 am PST.” With that little message, the online world erupted: Has the one-time N' Sync member, absent from the album charts for nearly seven years, finally decided to release new music? If so, it's certainly taken a while. The last time we had solo music from the superstar, George W. Bush was still president and "American Idol" (arguably) mattered.

Justin Timberlake's unofficial takeover of NBC continued Tuesday on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," where he's camped out all week long following his fifth "SNL" hosting gig on Saturday. On the second night of "Justin Timberweek," the singer performed a new song, "Mirrors," from his upcoming album, but it was his unusual rendition of "SexyBack" that was the standout moment of the episode. At the suggestion of a viewer, Timberlake teamed up with "The Ragtime Gals" -- "Late Night's" in-house barbershop quartet, known for their covers of raunchy songs like "It Wasn't Me" -- on a new version of the infectious 2006 hit single.

One of the key traits of Justin Timberlake's new “The 20/20 Project” is its length. The majority of its songs run longer than seven minutes, adding both volume and density. Produced by Timbaland with his longtime collaborator Jerome “J-Roc” Harmon, the record's big, bold songs suggest a nod to prog-rock epic-ness. It's a notion that was confirmed during a recent conversation with Harmon, who has worked with Timbaland for nearly a decade, first as a keyboardist and now as one of his key co-producers.

Another day, another component in the Justin Timberlake promotional juggernaut. Around the same time Tuesday night that The CW was airing a one-hour special memorably titled "Target Presents the iHeartRadio Album Release Party with Justin Timberlake," Vevo premiered the music video for "Mirrors," the second single from "The 20/20 Experience. " Timberlake's third solo album -- which marks his return to music following a six-year break -- arrived in stores Tuesday, though it had been available to stream on iTunes since March 11. On Saturday he performed at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas, and last week he appeared for five nights straight on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Justin Timberlake declared himself the "People's Champ" Wednesday after taking home three People's Choice Awards. So how does an A-lister ring in said honors? Indulge in a little food of the people too. "What do we do after we win 3 PCAs?!?! Easy... Go to Taco Bell!! People's Champ, baby!!" the "Mirrors" singer wrote , captioning an Instagram photo of himself behind a Taco Bell counter with his three awards set up in front of a register. We're pretty sure Fergie's hit song "G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S" has a lyric about this kind of behavior.

Justin Timberlake scored the top-selling album of 2013 with his “The 20/20 Experience” and Robin Thicke ruled the singles chart with the runaway hit “Blurred Lines,” according to year-end sales figures released by Nielsen SoundScan. But these two sales monarchs presided over a kingdom that continued to erode in significant ways. Timberlake's album sold 2.43 million copies during the year, the only album to top the 2 million mark in 2013 and the lowest figure for the year's biggest-selling album since Nielsen SoundScan started reporting retail sales in 1991.

Christmas is over but users can keep getting gifts by downloading Apple's 12 Days of Gifts app, which is giving away free videos of Justin Timberlake performances Thursday. Apple released the promotional app earlier this month and will be giving users a free daily digital present -- music videos, songs, apps, etc. -- starting Thursday and ending on Jan. 6. On the first day of gifts, Apple is letting users download four live songs from Justin Timberlake's performance at the 2013 iTunes Festival in London.

It's not exactly Beyoncé shocking the world by dropping an unannounced album on iTunes. But for fans of indie-aligned pop and rock, Sky Ferreira provided a jolt late Monday with a tweet that linked to a video featuring her and Ariel Pink performing Pink's song "My Molly. " Ferreira's collaboration with the L.A.-based eccentric -- in which they crash around a white-walled soundstage -- follows the release in October of her long-anticipated debut album, "Night Time, My Time. " The video was directed by Grant Singer, who also made recent clips for the record's title track and "You're Not the One. " And "My Molly" might be the first in a series of such surprises.

Is Justin Timberlake back? OK, so the superstar singer-actor hasn't exactly been away lately; indeed, it might be Timberlake's overexposure this year that led the Recording Academy to snub "The 20/20 Experience" in the recently announced nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards. (Then again, with the Recording Academy, general cluelessness is always a reliable bet.) Yet Timberlake has spent much of the past few months in celebrity mode as opposed to musician mode. Even headlining Staples Center just before Thanksgiving, he seemed more like a Hollywood king holding court than like a dude playing songs.

Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z may be taking their buddy act on the road, possibly for a stadium tour this summer, according to various press reports. Having appeared together Sunday night at the Grammy Awards, following another recent joint performance in New Orleans on Super Bowl weekend, Timberlake and Jay-Z are said to be lining up perhaps a dozen or more stadium shows together. Last night's episode of “Saturday Night Live” was stocked with star power, including host Jimmy Fallon, musical guest Justin Timberlake and loads of surprise appearances from the likes of Paul McCartney, Madonna, and Michael Bloomberg. Yet they were were all overshadowed by a silly video by the “SNL” ladies about making love in a twin bed. In what could be called the female answer to “... in A Box,” Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Vanessa Bayer, Aidy Bryant, Nasim Pedrad and Noël Wells got naughty as they extolled the joys of sleeping over in their childhood bedrooms with their boyfriends.

Justin Timberlake, you romantic. The "Suit & Tie" crooner's role in one couple's marriage proposal made most other question-popping stories seem like amateur hour. After singing "That Girl," Timberlake abruptly paused his Louisville, Ky., concert on Sunday to innocuously address some fans in the pit. Or so it seemed.  PHOTOS: Justin Timberlake's career in pictures "Josh and Kim, why don't ya'll make your way up here," Timberlake said, leading Josh Clemons and his girlfriend Kim Martin to the grand piano set up onstage.
