Kara Kennedy, 42, the daughter of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, underwent surgery at Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital to remove a cancerous tumor from her right lung. She begins chemotherapy in the next few weeks. She lives in Bethesda, Md., and is married with two children, ages 6 and 8. Kennedy's brother Edward Jr. lost a leg to cancer as a child in 1973. Her other sibling is Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy (D-R.I.).

A man who built his career on testosterone, who spent years pumping iron and staring at himself in mirrors, who thrived in the egocentric troika of sports, Hollywood and politics is probably not a good candidate for faithful husband. Maria Shriver had to have known that when she married Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold and men like him are supreme narcissists. Sure, they are charming, dynamic, seductive, even magnetic, but the world beyond their own minds and bodies is an abstraction.

Kara Kennedy, the oldest child of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, died Friday at a Washington, D.C.-area health club after her daily workout, said her brother Patrick. She was 51. "She's with Dad," said her brother, a former congressman from Rhode Island. Their father, who had a malignant brain tumor, died in 2009 at age 77 . She was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2002, and doctors removed a malignant tumor the next year. Patrick Kennedy said she loved to exercise but the cancer treatment "took quite a toll on her" and "her heart gave out. " Her mother, Joan Kennedy, told the Boston Globe that Kara's death was "such a shock because she was in such good health.

Carl Perkins earned his Ph.D. in rock 'n' roll long ago and now he'll get an honorary doctor of humanities from Lambuth College in Jackson, Tenn., on April 29. Kennedy, and Eleanor Mondale, the daughter of former Vice President Walter F. Mondale. Both women had been battling cancer. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) remained in the hospital Sunday, awaiting test results that could explain why the 76-year-old suffered a seizure a day earlier. Doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital said today was the earliest the tests would be complete. The hospital and Kennedy's office released no new information about his condition Sunday.
