Could Corbin Bleu's background in dance ultimately hurt him on "Dancing With the Stars?" His partner, Karina Smirnoff, seems to think so. Smirnoff has danced on "Dancing With the Stars" for a long time (since Season 3), so she knows a bit about how the judges work on the ABC dance competition series. But with just five teams left on the show this season, could she already be making excuses if she and Bleu are cut this week? The judges "leave no room for us," Smirnoff told UPI in an interview published Monday.

Wonder Twin powers: Activate! It was a close race to the finish, but in the end, country singer Kellie Pickler and her pro partner Derek Hough pulled out a one-two punch to knock out the rest of the competition and emerged as the “Dancing With the Stars” Season 16 champions. Well, the “American Idol” also-ran wanted to “end with a bang,” and that she did. “This is amazing, oh my God!” Kellie said. Head judge Len Goodman called her the “bee's knees” and “my uncle's carbuncle.” Bruno Tonioli compared her to Derek's little sister, Julianne Hough.

A Mirror Ball trophy would be the perfect complement to three Olympic medals. And that could happen, because gymnast Aly Raisman, 18, who won three medals (two golds, one silver) at the London Olympics last summer, will compete on "Dancing with the Stars" this season. Raisman, former figure skating champion Dorothy Hamill, boxer Victor Ortiz and NFL star Jacoby Jones will all compete this season on the show, which starts March 18. Hamill, 56, won Olympic gold at the 1976 Innsbruck Olympics.

“Dancing With the Stars” alums -- and exes -- Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovski will reunite on the New York stage. The once-engaged pair will perform Luis Bravo's “Forever Tango" at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theater on July 9-28. The Tony-winning production, which first appeared on Broadway in 1997, traces tango beginnings from the underbelly of 19th century Argentina into a staged sexual tug-of-war in sequins. PHOTOS: Hollywood stars on stage Smirnoff, a five-time U.S. national champion, and Chmerkovski, who choreographed “Le Reve” in Las Vegas, made their Broadway debuts in the 2009 production of "Burn the Floor.

And the stars just keep on falling. In another shocking “Dancing With the Stars” Season 17 elimination, actress Elizabeth Berkley Lauren and Valentin Chmerkovskiy were ejected from the glitterverse in the quarterfinal round of competition. This unexpected result landed about as well as Nomi pushing Cristal down the stairs. The “Saved By the Bell” actress just came off a perfect 30 score. A routine the judges thought was her best ever. They all joked about “ab envy.” She had just danced with a shirtless Gleb Savchenko.

Call us Moonstruck. In a glittery match made in sparkle heaven, the shimmery stars aligned and Cher took over Week 8 on “Dancing With the Stars.”  The not-quite-EGOT performer (she's got an Emmy, a Grammy, and an Oscar. Which makes her an EGO) and taller half of Sonny & Cher put on many costumes and hats during her night in the glitterverse. The multi-hyphenate performed two songs, filled in for Len Goodman as head judge, and had her songs featured in every routine. Son and former “DWTS” contestant Chaz Bono was in the audience.

In this super-concentrated “Dancing With the Stars” format, this jam-packed parade of fringe and sparkles, paddles, the Troupe, a glimpse of the Harold Wheeler band and the dreaded elimination can seem like quite the bedazzled swirl. But on Monday night, Season 17 sent its first star out of the glitterverse, a casualty of having the lowest combined total of judges' scores and viewer votes. Turns out the latest entrant into the Losers' Club were Keyshawn Johnson and Sharna Burgess.

Break out the sparkles and glitter guns: Season 17 of “Dancing With the Stars” has burst like a sparkly confetti bomb and cha-cha'd directly into ballroom-loving hearts. Along with the premiere of a new season comes a slew of Glitterdome changes. “DWTS” has been reduced to one night per week this season, so the producers have cut out all the unnecessary fringe. No more Celebraquarium Sky Box (the prime real estate has been converted to condos, according to host Tom Bergeron)

We have five words for you: Bill Nye the Waltz Guy. The embarrassment of riches in reality-TV land keep coming. "American Idol" on Tuesday bestowed on us a "dream team" of a judges panel. Now Wednesday gives us the roster of celebrity participants -- including a sitcom legend and yet another Disney star -- taking part in the upcoming season of "Dancing with the Stars. " (Maybe on Thursday the Kardashians will announce another spinoff?) The new season of "Dancing with the Stars," which transitions to one night, is set to kick off with a two-hour premiere on Sept.
