Kat Von D's wedding plans are sunk - and that's a good thing. The tattoo artist and her electronic-musician fiance, Deadmau5 (real name Joel Zimmerman), are leaving the traditional white wedding far behind and choosing an underwater vibe instead for their nuptials. The couple apparently both love and are drawing inspiration from the 1926 H.P. Lovecraft story "The Call of Cthulhu," Von D told People on Monday (As best we can tell from a very quick read , it's about a powerful ancient creature that is part man, part octopus and part dragon and lurks in an ancient city beneath the sea)

You might call tattoo queen Kat Von D a woman of the world. The host of TLC's "L.A. Ink" has a full name that's German (Katherine Von Drachenberg), but she was born in Mexico to Argentine parents. She's obsessed with Finland yet calls Hollywood home. Now 26, she came to fame while appearing on "Miami Ink," but some friction there sent her west, where she opened her own L.A. studio and landed the TLC gig (it airs at 10 p.m. Thursdays, and Season 1, Part 2, was just released on DVD).

DeadMau5 is so shy that Von D spoke for him on the Grammys red carpet Sunday, but he said that no matter whether he wins, he's winning by marrying her. The couple, who got engaged over Twitter in December, said they've picked a date and will marry in L.A. "We've come up with some pretty sinister stuff," said DeadMau5 of their wedding plans. One way he wasn't shy: In what we assume was a bit of commentary on the memo CBS sent out about appropriate attire for the show - specifically the line about obscenity on clothing being unwelcome.  GRAMMYS 2013: Full coverage | Live blog | Show highlights | Winners and nominees | Ballot "Your hit bums me out," read the white lettering on his baseball cap, which quite clearly showed evidence that one key letter had been blacked out. Kat Von D and recent beau Deadmau5 are no longer together, the tattoo artist and reality TV star announced on Twitter over the weekend. "Man ... Can't say I didn't give it my best," she said Saturday in the first of a series of tweets on the breakup. "Man, I sure was wrong. But at least he made it a no-brainer to break that off. #lessonlearned. Now, we can get all of the 'I told you so's' outta the way ... And move on. " And for those who had no idea what or whom the 30-year-old was talking about?

Kat Von D was feeling the burn Friday morning as she began laser tattoo removal on ink of a young Jesse James' face, sharing shots of the action via Twitter and Instagram. "I get to start the day off with some good ol' tattoo laser removal! #ouchville #sillytattoos #creatingjobs :)," the tattoo artist wrote, following up with a picture of herself wearing protective eyewear and then a montage , above right, of the laser in action on her former fiance's fifth-grade grin.  "AND SO IT BEGINS!

Kat Von D is engaged to Deadmau5, and the two did it the new-fashioned way: on Twitter. "I can't wait for Christmas so.... Katherine Von Drachenberg, will you marry me? @thekatvond" electronic-music producer and DJ Deadmau5 - real name Joel Zimmerman - tweeted on Saturday, including a picture of a ring, seen above.  Apparently the answer was yes, as the 30-year-old tattoo artist and reality TV personality followed up with a multitude of exclamation points, then this: "Mi corazon!

Kat Von D's breakup with ex-fiance Jesse James, the former Mr. Sandra Bullock, is playing out in operatic fashion over the airwaves and the Internet. The tattooed "L.A. Ink" star made headlines for checking out of a "Good Day LA" interview Wednesday after her relationship with James was mentioned while she sat backstage, and engaged afterward in a back-and-forth via Twitter with the show's host, Jillian Barberie Reynolds. But -- counterintuitive though it may seem -- when it comes to breakups, women actually fare better than men. A 2010 study published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior found that men suffer emotionally more than women do after a romantic relationship ends.

"L.A. Ink," the reality TV show that chronicles the life of a bustling tattoo shop and its crew of mostly female inkers, has made Kat Von D one of the highest-profile tattoo artists in the country. But the 26-year-old shop owner, whose body is covered in "too many tattoos to count," has also become an unlikely sex symbol -- a counterculture pinup to rival that other raven-haired Von-something, burlesque star Dita Von Teese.

It was 9:30 a.m. on a recent drafty morning, and 325 people were wrapped around the La Brea Avenue block outside High Voltage Tattoo. They were gathered to help Kat Von D (born Katherine Von Drachenberg), star of TLC's reality show "LA Ink," set a world record (as in "The Guinness Book of . . .") for completing the most tattoos in 24 hours. It was all being filmed for the show, which begins airing new episodes at 10 tonight.
