It's the news that launched a thousand headlines Monday across the pond: the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting!  Thank goodness -- the British monarchy will endure. A future king or queen (as The Times reported, “The royal act of succession was changed last October to admit the eldest child whether son or daughter, rather than the eldest son to inherit the throne”) is on the way. Heck, they're so modern now, the news was announced on Buckingham Palace's website.

Could Kate Middleton be pregnant with twins? According to this backgrounder from the U.S. National Library of Medicine, one cause of hyperemesis gravidarum -- the severe form of morning sickness that has landed the expecting Duchess of Cambridge in King Edward VII Hospital in Central London -- is carrying multiples. That means twins, triplets or possibly more. The duchess' condition doesn't necessarily signal that she and Prince William will be welcoming more than one prince or princess about nine months from now, of course.

Masochism is the chief prerequisite for a private writing seminar with Leonard, the fearsome teacher, writer and editor conducting a mini reign of terror in Theresa Rebeck's Broadway comedy "Seminar," now at the Ahmanson Theatre. Played by Jeff Goldblum as a snarling narcissist in designer sportswear better suited to someone half his age, this pedagogical terrorist has agreed to lead a writing workshop with four fiercely competitive students, each of whom has paid $5,000 for the privilege of having their fiction eviscerated with a shrug and a yawn.

It was good news Monday for two of Fox's new comedies. "Ben and Kate" and "The Mindy Project" received full-season orders after just two episodes of each series have aired. Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly said in a statement, "'Ben and Kate' and 'The Mindy Project' have everything we want to stand for in comedy: smart writing, hugely appealing casts and comedy that feels contemporary and real -- which is why we're confident they will continue to build on what is already an appointment comedy night for young, influential audiences on Tuesdays.

Kate Upton has appeared in all kinds of places -- and pictures and videos -- wearing teensy bikinis ever since she made a big splash on the cover of  Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue earlier this year. So it's almost a surprise to see her in a dress -- albeit it a low-cut, micro-length one -- on the November cover of Cosmo. [Cosmopolitan] At Paris Fashion Week, Karl Lagerfeld showed he can still bring it at Chanel. Los Angeles Times fashion critic Booth Moore writes that the show on Tuesday morning was "a demonstration of the power of the original Chanel design codes and the energy and creative output Lagerfeld has put into sustaining the behemoth luxury brand since he took over in 1983.

"Ben and Kate" is a sweet, smart new show from Fox that may turn out to be the best new comedy of the fall season. Certainly, it is the most original, combining silly, often physical humor with the more sensitive homespun sort while also showcasing one of the most fascinating yet under-used relationships on TV: a brother and sister. Kate Fox (Dakota Johnson) is a twentysomething single mom, which means she'll be handling the voiceover. A bar manager, she's trying to create some stability for her 5-year-old daughter Maddie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones)
