Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce. After nearly six years of marriage, a lawyer for Holmes said Friday that the pair are calling it quits. "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement to People, which broke the story. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest. " PHOTOS: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes through the years The couple had not yet filed papers with the L.A. Katie Holmes is willing to expand her little family. "I don't know. I'm open to it," the actress tells Allure brightly. However, she's been linked to few suitors, save for a rumored ( and debunked ) dalliance with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Tom Cruise's ex-wife and mother of stylish 6-year-old Suri Cruise is the mag's balmy April cover girl. She strips down for the mag's pictorials (a la her topless Iris jewelry ad campaign ) and is opening up a bit about what the future holds for her. The tabloids tell us that Scientology was at the root of the breakup between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. If the "sources" fueling the entertainment media's frenzied coverage of the divorce are correct, Holmes realized Suri was reaching an age where her religious instruction would begin in earnest, and could not bear it. Neither Cruise nor Holmes nor their representatives are confirming any of this. Regardless, the rumors and related coverage raise the question: What is Scientology?

Usually when the words "shots fired" are linked to Tom Cruise, it's in the context of a big-budget action movie. Not so Thursday, when Beverly Hills police surrounded the actor's home just before noon in response to an emergency call that turned out to be yet another "swatting" hoax. After receiving a report of an armed robbery in progress, police surrounded the home, according to L.A. Now . However, "no emergency was discovered," the Beverly Hills Police Department said in a news release.

If Tom Cruise had a rumored new girlfriend in recent weeks, now it must be ex-wife Katie Holmes' turn - and talk had it that she was turning up the heat with one Jake Gyllenhaal. But talk is all it was, and one-international-tabloid talk at that. Grazia magazine had Holmes and Gyllenhaal spending time together in a romance that supposedly kicked off with an intro by Katie's former "Dawson's Creek" costar Joshua Jackson. "Katie says that they have tons in common and Jake has already been to see her in 'Dead Accounts,' plus she has been over to his apartment in the West Village for dinner," a source told the tabloid (via MTV UK )

Katie Holmes made her return to Broadway in "Dead Accounts" as the dark comedy began previews Monday night after a delay caused by Hurricane Sandy. Holmes drew applause on several occasions during the preview, specifically when the phone she was using onstage broke and she carried on by incorporating the mishap into the scene, People magazine reported . The play about Wall Street greed is written by "Smash" creator Theresa Rebeck and stars Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz as a wealthy prodigal son named Jack who heads back to his family in Ohio.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' choice of a Hebrew-flavored name for their newborn daughter has speakers of the language scratching their heads. Baby Suri's name can be traced to a Hebrew word meaning "princess" or "noblewoman," but by such a circuitous route that the connection is lost on most Israelis. Since the birth Tuesday in L.A., bemused Israeli TV and radio presenters have debated the word's origins.

"Project Runway's" Heidi Klum is on the February cover of Marie Claire and inside she talks about her divorce from Seal ("It's not what I wanted...but it's not a real problem"), marrying again ("I don't think so") and younger lovers (“I can understand why a woman finds a young man attractive, because the truth is that when men get older, their shape changes. Younger men train more, and when the clothes come off, it is nice to look at a sexy, ripped body. But I am realistic. I'm turning 40 next year; I don't think I could deal with waking up next to a 25-year-old.” The magazine is out Jan. 15, and "Project Runway" returns for an 11th season on Jan. 24. [Marie Claire]

Is Tom Cruise healing his heart with a new girlfriend, so soon after being bounced by Katie Holmes? Katie Holmes left the house with one band, the traveling circus of paparazzi and news cameras following her, and without another - her wedding ring. Indeed, Holmes was spotted out in New York City on Monday taping a guest judge spot for "Project Runway: All Stars," noticeably missing the wedding band Tom Cruise presented to her five years ago. Palling around with Heidi Klum isn't the only work she's drummed up. Holmes will film "Responsible Adults" with Chace Crawford later this year, according to MTV News.  Staying busy may be the best move for Katie and certainly Cruise, who was reportedly blindsided by Holmes' decision to end their marriage (and to seek sole custody of their daughter, Suri, to boot)

What move befits an actress looking to make a fresh start after a high-profile divorce? If you're Katie Holmes, you turn to the comforting, high-wattage embrace of Broadway. After a month that found Holmes joining Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman among the ranks of ex-wives to movie star Tom Cruise, the actress has signed on to star in Theresa Rebeck's new comedy, "Dead Accounts," which will premiere at Broadway's Music Box Theatre this fall. Holmes made her Broadway debut in 2008 in a production of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons," which resulted in mixed reviews including Ben Brantley in the New York Times, who wasn't exceptionally complimentary of the actress' peformance but seemed most disappointed in the play's director.

Theresa Rebeck's "Dead Accounts" is on Broadway, loaded with stars -- including two-time Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz in the lead as an unscrupulous Wall Street go-getter who has landed back home in Cincinnati, lavishing ill-gotten gains on his family, among them his unglamorous, stay-at-home sister, played by Katie Holmes. The play, Holmes' first acting gig since her divorce from Tom Cruise, began its life as a non-glitzy homecoming offering. The playwright grew up near Cincinnati, and the city's top regional company, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, commissioned her to tell a story set locally.

Katie Holmes' new Broadway effort "Dead Accounts" has finally opened for New York audiences after weeks of previews, and the reviews are in. The verdict: a mixed reception for former "Smash" show-runner Theresa Rebeck's play, but Katie herself won over many with her performance -- especially in contrast to her 2008 Broadway debut in a revival of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons. " The Times said Holmes was "charming, natural and, yes, about as fresh-faced as a moisturizer model," but ultimately couldn't bring dimension to the poorly drawn character.
