The Rams think they got back into the National Football League rat race Sunday by drafting the best racers on the board, a theme that continued Monday on the draft's second day when the team resumed its quest for speed. "We'll race anybody in this draft," Coach John Robinson said. Three of the Rams' top picks in the first two rounds Sunday--tailback Gaston Green and receivers Aaron Cox and Willie Anderson--can run the 40-yard dash about as fast as you can say their names.

The Rams activated special teams star Tim Tyrrell Friday and placed rookie tailback Keith Jones on injured reserve with an ankle injury. Tyrrell had been on injured reserve since Aug. 30 with a hamstring pull. Jones had been on the team's two-man inactive list on game days. To make room for Tyrrell on the 45-man roster, rookie linebacker Brett Faryniarz was moved to Jones' spot on the inactive list for this week.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, long criticized for giving short shrift to organic foods, will install a Texas organic-farming advocate to lead the agency's national organic program. Keith Jones, who in 1988 founded the state organic certification program in Texas, confirmed Wednesday that he plans to assume the post in early March. He will replace Michael I. Hankin, who has been acting coordinator of the program for about the last year.

The British government on Wednesday banned the drug Halcion, the world's most widely prescribed sleeping pill. Halcion, and other medicines containing triazolam, have been associated with psychological side effects, particularly memory loss and depression, an announcement from the Department of Health said.
