The broadcast networks jettisoned children's shows and sports coverage, joining cable news networks in a somber daylong vigil after John F. Kennedy Jr.'s plane was reported missing early Saturday morning. From just after 5 a.m. PDT, when the news first broke on NBC, television news called anchors in from vacation spots and sent their helicopters into the air over the ocean for virtually nonstop coverage of the search for Kennedy's plane.

Mark Ruffalo, who costarred this year with Jennifer Garner in the comedy film "13 Going on 30," and his wife, actress Sunrise Coigney, have purchased a Hollywood Hills home for just under $1.7 million. The gated estate has three bedrooms and four bathrooms plus a detached guest quarters in about 3,000 square feet. The Connecticut farmhouse-style home was built in 1933 but was restored recently. It's on almost an acre and has canyon and city views.

The flight of John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife and sister-in-law was normal until about 17 miles from the airport off Martha's Vineyard, when the plane suddenly lost altitude in an apparent "graveyard spiral," an indication that pilot error was the most likely cause of the crash, air safety experts said Monday. The plane lost 1,100 feet in only 14 seconds--a descent rate of 4,700 feet per minute--before it disappeared from radar coverage, National Transportation Safety Board officials said.
