Jason Meyers of Irvine defeated Allan Jurlina of Imperial Beach, 6-4, 6-4, to win the boys' 18-and-under title of the 45th U.S. Tennis Assn. National Public Parks Junior tennis tournament at Chapman University. Stella Gonzalez of Placentia beat Eliza Gano of Carson, 6-0, 6-1, in the girls' 18-and-under final.

The Southern Section boys' tennis round of 16 and quarterfinals will be held today, beginning at 1 p.m., at SeaCliff Tennis Club. The top four singles players from Orange County--Elliott West of Laguna Beach, Ryan Thompson of Foothill, Joost Hol of Foothill and Ryan Moore of Servite--won their two preliminary matches in straight sets last Saturday to advance. Hol, who won the boys' 16s at Ojai last month, and Moore are freshmen.

Two burglary suspects were arrested early Saturday after leading Fountain Valley police on a chase on the San Diego Freeway and through residential Santa Ana streets, police said. Booked at Orange County Jail on suspicion of burglary was Anthony J. Gonzalez, 26, of Santa Ana, Fountain Valley Police Sgt. Lee Pepka said. Also booked on suspicion of burglary at Juvenile Hall was a 17-year-old male, whose name was withheld because of his age, Pepka said. Pepka gave this account: About 2:54 a.m.

Junior high is the proverbial awkward time. Looks are suddenly all-important, as bodies are changing and the importance of social status increases. No show on television has captured that time with such poignancy and humor as The Wonder Years, which will have its series finale Wednesday. When the series began, it was set in the historically significant year of 1968.

NBC's "Working" is nearly the last of this season's new series to arrive, but not close to being the least. In fact, it's among the very best, right up there with the WB network's "Alright Already" in promising a moderately twisted howl, a sitcom in which Fred Savage--though no longer the shrimpy adolescent awkwardly coming of age in ABC's "The Wonder Years"--exhibits some of the comedic skills that previously endeared him to viewers.

In Empire League semifinals: Hollenbeck wins in upset--In singles, Loara's Bryan Hollenbeck upset top-seeded Tunde Osunsanmi of El Dorado, 6-4, 6-4. Loara's James Pai, last season's second-place finisher, defeated El Dorado's Ali Kermani, 6-2, 6-4. In doubles, Mike Kim and Mike Lee advanced to the finals with a 6-4, 6-4 victory for Loara and Tim Wing and Bryen Woo from Cypress also advanced, winning, 6-4, 7-6.

A federal magistrate Thursday ordered the extradition of Michael Wayde Mohon to California to face charges of attempted murder in an attack on a reserve police officer from Fountain Valley. U.S. Magistrate Bert W. Milling ordered Mohon, 43, held in federal custody until he is returned to California. No bail was set. Mohon, who waived a hearing on his transfer to California, was arrested in Eight Mile, Ala., on Wednesday by FBI agents on information provided by a woman who viewed a segment of the NBC television program titled "Unsolved Mysteries."
