Even with this being only January, the Clippers and Oklahoma City were fully aware that the best record in the NBA was at stake when they played Tuesday night at Staples Center. For the Clippers, it meant having to play with Chris Paul sitting out because of a bruised right kneecap. Not having Paul for this encounter was too much for the Clippers to overcome, especially with the Thunder going off from three-point range during a 109-97 victory. "Obviously, we didn't have our general out there," Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro said about missing Paul.

— When TNT announced the starters Thursday for the NBA All-Star game, it didn't come as a surprise the Clippers had Chris Paul and Blake Griffin named to the Western Conference team. Paul, who missed his third straight game Thursday night at Minnesota because of a bruised right kneecap, was picked to start in the backcourt alongside Lakers guard Kobe Bryant . Griffin was picked to start in the frontcourt with Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and the Lakers' Dwight Howard . Paul and Griffin are big reasons why the Clippers have the second-best record in the NBA. Paul is averaging 16.8 points, 9.7 assists and an NBA-best 2.62 steals per game.

As Jamal Crawford lingered in the Clippers' locker room late Friday night, two children darted across the carpet while two others swiveled in oversized chairs in front of Matt Barnes' locker. Crawford sat on a counter contemplating the scene and a season that has seemed like child's play for the veteran shooting guard. "I haven't had this much fun," he said, "since high school. " Crawford is among the big men on the Clippers' campus, leading the NBA in bench scoring and building buzz as the probable sixth man of the year and a possible All-Star reserve.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Kobe Bryant isn't being a vain superstar when he takes credit for instilling a fight-through-it mentality in Kevin Durant. He's telling the truth, Durant said. “I watch guys and I just look at their facial expressions and their body language and I observe them,” Durant, the star Oklahoma City forward, said after the Thunder's shoot-around Friday. “You look at Kobe, they could go on a five-game losing streak and he could shoot 30% and he has a poker face.

OKLAHOMA CITY - Kobe Bryant is all too familiar with these Oklahoma City guys. They remind him a lot of himself. They can shrug off almost everything and keep on going, he said. "Not too many players have had that," according to Bryant. "Michael [Jordan] had it. I have it. Durant has it. Westbrook has it. They just don't care about pressure situations or criticism or whatever. It's rare. " Bryant even knew where Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook learned to cop an attitude. "For sure.

OKLAHOMA CITY --  Caron Butler will not play Wednesday night against the Thunder because of a strained right shoulder. Matt Barnes is set to start at small forward in place of Butler. Butler was injured during the Clippers' win, 101-80, over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday. He played in the first quarter against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday night, but was shut down after that. “It thins us out a little bit and changes the complexion of our bench,” Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro said.

OKLAHOMA CITY - The pain Matt Barnes felt in his dislocated left pinkie was equally as painful as how he felt after the Clippers' 117-111 overtime loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night. Barnes stepped in at small forward in place of Caron Butler, who sat out because of a strained shoulder, and he stepped up to defend All-Star forward Kevin Durant. In a game Barnes said the Clippers "felt like we should have won," he did his part by scoring 19 points, grabbing nine rebounds, getting four steals and blocking a shot.
