Microsoft Corp. said Thursday that it had hired Kevin Turner, who as president of Sam's Club led a turnaround of the warehouse chain, a unit of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Turner, who worked his way up from cashier, also served as Wal-Mart's chief information officer. The 40-year-old executive will fill a job that had been open for three years.

UC Irvine and campus-based KUCI (88.9 FM) have reached an agreement for the radio station to broadcast all of the Anteaters' men's basketball games this season. Wal-Mart promoted its chief information officer, Kevin Turner, 37, to replace Tom Grimm, who is retiring. Growth at Sam's Club has lagged behind Wal-Mart's other units. Earlier this month, the warehouse segment posted operating profit growth of just 3% for the second quarter.

More than 2,000 former NFL players and their families will file a “master complaint” in court Thursday, consolidating their nearly 100 concussion-related lawsuits against the NFL. The complaint will be filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, alleging that the NFL “deliberately and fraudulently concealed from its players the link between football-related head impacts and long-term neurological injuries.” ...

Robert Jones had two one-yard touchdown runs for Alabama, and Gary Hollingsworth threw a 25-yard scoring pass to Kevin Turner. Tarrant Lynch ran 77 yards for a late touchdown. The Crimson Tide, which had dropped five games dating back to last season, improved to 1-3, 1-2 in the SEC.
